Christina Noble Children's Foundation Updated Newsletter
April - June 2013
Children from Lam Dong Province Vietnam
We are very pleased to announce that in May, Director of Christina Noble Children’s Foundation Vietnam - Nicolas Pistolas, on behalf of the Foundation in Vietnam, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with MOLISA [the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs] in Hanoi.  This very important MOU allows the Foundation to continue to carry out the amazing work being done in Vietnam for the benefit of children.
Nicolas was also awarded the very prestigious medal for the Contribution for the Cause of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs presented by the Deputy Minister of MOLISA.
MOLISA and the government officials in attendance were extremely impressed with the dedication and years of work the Foundation has spent helping children in Vietnam.  A special thanks to Dr Ngan, the Director of the Centre for Social Assistance for Disadvantaged Children, to Trinh and to the Vietnam team for helping put together a very professional presentation and all the arrangements with the Vietnamese Government.

The Foundation was also delighted to receive the prestigious Chingeltei District Governors Award in Mongolia in May.
The One Award
On Thursday 6th June it was an incredible honour for Christina to be awarded runner up for International Humanitarian of the Year at the International Rotarian 'The One' award. The Award was announced at the Award Gala Dinner in Hong Kong This annual award is intended to celebrate a Foundation alumnus or alumna whose extraordinary service activities and professional achievements exemplify the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self.
"THE ONE is someone who dedicates himself to the improvement of mankind, works for the highest standard of good, acts with compassion and kindness and can come from any part of the world, regardless of gender, race or ethnic background.”
Congratulations to Valerie Taylor who won the award for outstanding humanitarian services of 43 years to the disabled and poor people of Bangladesh. All the finalists were incredibly inspiring for the commitment and incredible selflessness to those less fortunate than themselves.

A successful few months for the Foundation and tremendous recognition for the work that we do!
An evening with Christina Noble and Friends
On the 27th June 2013, at the Millenium Gloucester Hotel, London, the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation hosted a very special evening to celebrate the making of the biopic film NOBLE about the remarkable life of the founder, Christina Noble.
Guests included friends and long term supporters of the Foundation as well as members of the cast and crew of NOBLE. The evening began with a big welcome from Christina followed by dinner, during which the guests were entertained by the fabulous Cole Page.
Highlights of the evening were provided by Director and Writer of NOBLE Stephen Bradley and Deirdre O’Kane, lead Actor of the film who recalled how, after meeting Christina at an event in Dublin, she told Stephen “we have to make this film!”  Christina in her own words said at the beginning of the evening that many people had approached her over the years with ideas for making a film of her life, but instinctively she knew that Stephen was the right person to handle it.
Guests were then treated to a short preview of the film which absolutely captivated the room and left everyone wanting to see more. The evening was a great success and as guests John and Gerard Devine said to us at the end of the evening, “Christina is an inspiration and as teachers, reinforces for us, the responsibility we have to children.“
NOBLE will be released in early 2014.

If you haven’t already done so please follow all the news by registering on the Noble website and for those of you on Facebook and Twitter.

On Friday 31st May, Christina Noble Children’s Foundation Uk had the pleasure of hosting our good friend Artist Pham Van Duc’s exhibition ‘Introspection Matthew 7:3’ in our gallery space’ Loft in Space London’. There was an amazing turn out and the gallery was filled with faces old and new. The night was a lively one, with music from Martin Byrne and Niall Murphy, and Raurie Macmanus; We even had belly dancing! Christina gave a deeply heartfelt speech. We are humbled by the support we received and thank everyone who came to support us and make it happen.
Duc’s wife Ciarna speaks about the event saying, “It was so nice to feel so much love, support and energy in one room. It was great to have our exhibition in this great urban space in London. Christina’s words blew me away and were very important for people to hear. For more information on the artist please VISIT HERE.
The space is available to hire in exchange for a donation email Ciarna or Anna
Team Noble! Now for some sports!
London Marathon

Fiona Kirk our lovely Marathon runner raised an amazing £3,395.50 for us with her valiant effort.
The staff of the UK office spent a fantastic day on the marathon course and caught up with Fiona at the 11 mile mark, where she saw our banner first then spotted our t-shirts. We clapped and cheered her on before making our way to mile 23.
Fiona completed the marathon in 5 hours 30 mins and on behalf of all of us at the Foundation we congratulate her on this huge achievement. It really was a special day, a fantastic atmosphere and London at its best.
A big thank you to Fiona for supporting us and doing such a great job. Thank you to everyone who donated and to Microsoft for matching the donations.

Doan Thi Phuong Thao
Doan Thi Phuong Thao was born in 1990. She is the youngest child of a poor family with two children. They lived in a small house which was in very bad condition. Thao’s father worked on a hired basis, her mother was an embroiderer while her grandmother was too old to work. Both her parents’ income was not only unstable but also inefficient to cover basic daily expenses for a family of five people. Therefore, the children were at high risk of dropping out of school due to financial problems.
Whilst attending grade 4 at Le Hoan School Thao was sponsored through the child sponsorship programme and was much happier once her studies were secured thanks to her sponsor. Her dream was to become a teacher when growing up so she studied exceptionally hard at school.
In 2008, Thao successfully passed the university entrance examination to Saigon University, with the major of Elementary Pedagogy. During four years studying here, she always achieved good results and gradually revealed her talent for teaching.
In August 2012, Thao completed her studies, graduated and achieved a degree of bachelor, Primary School Education. Since then, she has been employed as a full-time teacher at Tran Quang Khai primary school in Go Vap district.
Revolver Photo
On the 30th April Photographer Paul Crowther of Revolver Photo came by to photograph Christina. He took some lovely shots. Paul said of the day: I am very lucky that in my profession I meet some very interesting people, but it is not every day that you meet someone who is truly amazing and inspirational.
I felt very privileged to photograph Christina Noble. Christina is the founder and driving force behind the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation.
I was first made aware of Christina by my wife who had read her book when she was 18. The book is called ‘Bridge Across My Sorrows’ and it is a harrowing yet incredible account of Christina’s life. My wife and I visited Vietnam in 2007 and it is a country which we fell in love with. Not just the sheer beauty of the place but also the people, their spirit and determination. During our trip we visited the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation in Ho Chi Minh City to see for ourselves what an amazing job this lady and her team are doing.
