Greetings from a soaking wet Guatemala! We have been experiencing a lot of rain over the last few days due to the forming of a Pacific Storm. However, despite the recent storms, we have seen a lot of development in the ministry over the last month! God has really blessed us with a great intern, DJ, and a amazing team of girls from the World Race! Together, we have been able to see a lot of things develop in the ministry, both on the streets and in the renovations of intial uses of The Spark Cafe! In fact, it is as if over the last month we have seen the ministry rapidly develop right before our eyes!
Little Gerson
One of the great stories that we have watched take place is with a young guy named Gerson (pictured above), one of the initial street guys we met in the area of the bus terminal. This last year has been extremely tough for him and to be honest, it is an absolute miracle that he is even still alive today! Several months back he was hit by a car and experienced so much head trauma, that it was believed he likely would not survive the recovery. Well, he did and once released from the hospital found himself living in a home for troubled young teens. Unfortunately, he could only live there a few months as he quickly turned 18 and was given a choice to live with his grandmother or take the streets again. Sadly, he chose the streets. Watching him decline and fall apart again has been hard, but a few weeks ago, in the midst of a total personal breakdown, a miracle of sorts began to happen and after surviving another brutal attack, he made a brave decision to leave the streets and live with his grandmother! He has already been there for a week and we have been told he is doing great! Praise the Lord!
Bible Clubs at The Spark
Though we still have not completed our initial development of The Spark Cafe, we have had the pleasure of utilizing the space over the last month to host our Bible Clubs (now twice a week!). We have an average of about 20-25 super eager children who join us for each club to learn more about God, and more about how they can make the Bible real in their lives. We have spent the last month focusing much of our attention to the characteristics of Jesus and who He really was. So far, we have already talked about how He is our protector, how He He is patient, how He is creative, and how He loves to sing to us and loves when we sing to Him! This week we will touch a bit on our own identity and how we are each uniquely made and how the world would not be complete without us! Already the children are responding well and slowly beginning to put what they are learning into practice in their everyday lives!
Juli's Little Creative Miracle!
This past week, Juli did what she does best and began using her hands and creativity to do something amazing and different. This time, it was making a croche Darth Vader hat in anticipation of the upcoming Star Wars release. Instantly, the hat was a hit and has nearly gone viral with a lot of requests as to how to get a pattern (she now has one on Etsy for sale)! We have no idea if this is going to be our next great fundraising idea, but we are really excited about how God is moving with it already! Juli is now working on an Ewoks hat that will be soon posted on her
My Little Chapina facebook page! Join us in praying for the success of these little projects!
