ARPA-E Announces $27 Million for 14 New Projects
Today ARPA-E announced $27 million in funding for 14 new projects aimed at finding innovative ways to lower the cost and improve the efficiency of power electronics. These projects are part of a new ARPA-E program called SWITCHES, which is short for “Strategies for Wide-Bandgap, Inexpensive Transistors for Controlling High-Efficiency Systems.”
The 14 SWITCHES projects are specifically focused on finding new wide-bandgap semiconductor materials, device architectures, and fabrication processes to enable increased energy density and switching frequencies, enhanced temperature control, and reduced power losses in a range of power electronics applications, including electric motor drives and solar and wind inverters.
