ADHD Service

Monthly Information and Support Groups for Parent/Carers

We have the following courses and groups coming up over the next few months:
ADHD Monthly Workshop and Support Group - Reading - Free
Mondays from 7pm - 8:30pm

A monthly workshop and support group for all Berkshire parent/carers who have children or young people of any age who are pre & post diagnosis with ADHD.

15 parents attended the February & March info & support groups. Topics covered included Education & ADHD, and managing stressful situations. Parents have said that the main reason they attended was to meet other parents in the same situation. Parents reported that they also found the evenings helpful, and that they gained new knowledge.

Please feel free to join us for the next group is on Monday 27th April 2015 at 11 Glebe Road, Reading. RG2 7AG. Just let us know you're coming, as we don't want to run out of biscuits!

A 5 week course for parent/carers with Primary and Secondary school aged children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or for those awaiting a diagnosis.
This course is for parent/carers who live in the Reading Borough Council area.

This year's conference will be held on Thursday 14th May 2015 from 9:30am - 5:00pm.

Diagnosis Support Service

Pre and Post Diagnosis Support for Parent/Carers

The Diagnosis Support Service welcomes Jennie Kettell as the new service
co-ordinator.
Jennie says: "Hi, I'm Jennie and will be joining Parenting Special Children in March. I have two girls, one with Autism and one awaiting diagnosis. I am also a Parent Governor at a local special needs school."
Parenting Special Children is delighted to have Jennie join the team.

Our newly trained Peer Supporters are now joining our Parenting courses to offer support to families whilst attending the training.

Our service continues to offer support to families both pre and post diagnosis, helping parents and carers during the difficult and challenging time of diagnosis.

Monthly follow-up support for Families

One to One ongoing support appointments for Parent/Carers

If you have used one of our services before but need some extra help, the monthly support clinics are an opportunity for you to meet for an individual appointment with a Practitioner from the Parenting Support Service, the Sleep Service, or the Diagnosis Support Service. There is no charge for this service.

Other news from Parenting Special Children

Job Opportunities with Parenting Special Children - Part-time Practitioners for our Parenting Support Service team and our Sleep Service team (approx 6 hours a week - term time only contract)
We are looking to expand the Parenting Service and the Sleep Service (term time only services which allows flexible working) especially for parents/carers of children, young people or adults with disabilities.
 
All of our practitioners are parent/carers themselves but have a professional background in education or health - this is part of the unique nature of the services that we offer and is greatly appreciated by families who access our services.
 
Parenting Practitioner - background in education/training, knowledge of Autism, ADHD and other special needs, ability to facilitate groups, practitioner training given; must have own transport.
Sleep Practitioner - background in education/training, social care or health; must be able to attend NHS Sleep Training June 2015; knowledge of range of special needs; ability to co-facilitate workshops.
Closing date: Friday 27th March 2015
 
Interviews:  w/c Tuesday 31st March 2015

Reading Information Advice and Support Service are looking for volunteers
The Reading Information Advice and Support Service for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (Reading IASS for SEND – formerly Parent Partnership) is looking for volunteers to offer advice and support to families around SEND law, completing forms, and supporting families in meetings about their child.

Parenting Special Children Open Day - Thursday 9th July 2015 - Save the date!
Parenting Special Children will be having another Open Day on Thursday 9th July 2015. Further details later in the year.
 
Parenting Special Children AGM 2015 - Thursday 22nd October 2015 - Save the date!
The Parenting Special Children AGM 2015 will be held in October this year. Further details will be released later in the year.
