Growing in Effectiveness
Spring is upon us with new blooms everywhere, and Volunteer Park Trust is no exception. Things are growing and changing for us in terrific ways with a new grant, new employee, new Task Force, and new newsletter format. And we are still moving forward with our Irrigation Project, planting beds, and restoration sites.
You can help in lots of ways: we need your time at the Spring Restoration Day, we need your support during the GiveBIG donation drive, and we will need your input for our Performance Venue Task Force.
Together we can keep Volunteer Park the thriving community resource and beautiful urban refuge it deserves to be.

Work Parties Moved to 2nd Saturdays
Our monthly stewardship work parties have moved to the second Saturday of every month. Come meet your neighbors and have an enjoyable time gardening at Volunteer Park 10 AM to Noon. Upcoming second Saturdays: May 9th, June 13th, July 11th.

New Hire
The Trust welcomes Jeff Crandall, our new Administrative Services Manager. Jeff brings with him broad experience in development, including project and event management. This vital support will help streamline our efficiency and strengthen our effectiveness in improving the park as we take on larger and more complex projects.
It’s time for our annual Spring Restoration Day! Sunday, April 26th we will be removing invasive plants, weeding, and mulching. Tools, gloves, coffee and doughnuts will be provided. Come for part or all, rain or shine. We'll meet at the Black Sun sculpture.  Work will begin at 10:00 AM and end promptly by 2:00 PM. This fun gathering is a wonderful way to meet neighbors and help our lovely park.

Grant from Seattle Garden Club Assures New Beds
Volunteer Park Trust is pleased to be the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Seattle Garden Club for a prominent garden by the Lily Ponds. We deeply appreciate their generous support and vision. This is an exciting project for us and helps fulfill our dream of restoring all the beds around the central plaza. We will now begin our design and plant selection for Parks Department approval, irrigation plans, and heritage tree review. Look for our new plantings in the late fall.

Performance Venue Update

Task Force Launches
As the final details of our Department of Neighborhoods (DON) grant are being negotiated, the Trust has made great strides in forming and launching a Performance Venue Task Force. The first Task Force meeting was held in late March to introduce the project, meet fellow members, and set initial priorities.
The year-long DON grant will fund a feasibility study to explore technical requirements and community preferences for a new performance stage. The result will be a design program to guide future architectural planning. Public meetings will be scheduled during the course of the project.
