Our Fall Campaign is a Success!

An outpouring of community support has allowed Volunteer Park Trust to meet our 2016 fundraising goals. We are now ready to start 2017 with renewed energy in caring for the park.
Thanks to the generous support of people like you, we’ll be able to continue our monthly park stewardship on each 2nd Saturday, produce our twice-annual Restoration Days, host free community-wide events such as the December Holiday in the Park and July Picnic in the Park, continue the design process for the Amphitheater Project, provide free Park Tours and Yoga,  and so much more.  Thank you!

Peach Garden II in Volunteer ParkTwo Volunteer Park Gardens Completed

After over a year of planning, design approvals, bed preparation, purchasing plants, and coordinating volunteers, the Trust is proud to announce the restoration of two gardens in Volunteer Park.

The Seattle Garden Club funded the restoration of a major bed west of the South Lily Pond.  The Peach Foundation funded an additional bed northwest of the North Lily Pond. To complete these projects, the Trust's Landscape Committee has gone through a rigorous design process, as well as a review by the Landscape Architecture Department of the Seattle Park's and Recreation.  This included an irrigation update.

The Trust removed overgrown shrubs and invasive plants from the beds, then planted compact Forsythia, roses, Cotoneaster, Daphne, Hypericum and Potentilla, echoing the yellow palette called for by the original 1910 Olmsted planting plan.

We want to thank Seattle Parks and Recreation for their help in these projects and especially the hundreds of Trust volunteers who helped with weeding, digging, and planting.
As spring unfolds in the coming months, look for these beautiful new gardens awash in bright yellow blooms.
Volunteer Park Amphitheater planAmphitheater Project Schematic Design Taking Shape

Schematic design for the Volunteer Park Amphitheater Project is taking shape following public input.

Project consultants ORA Architects and Walker Macy Landscape Architects have met with Seattle Parks & Recreation staff, the ADA official at City of Seattle, performance groups and the VPT Amphitheater Task Force to coordinate the design evolution

Hundreds of people came to ORA’s information booth at the Trust’s December Holiday in the Park to give their input as well, many seeing the project for the first time.
The design team’s goal is to bring a sense of delight and logic to the building. The roof will be an expressive, airy element supported by the earth-bound anchoring cube structures.

ORA is planning to meet the Living Building Challenge and is looking into water catchment and a cistern to irrigate the building’s proposed green roofs. A public meeting is being planned for mid-March for a presentation of the final design.
