Arisia '16 is coming soon, and we're looking forward to showing you the awesomeness we've been putting together ... now with 32% more whimsy! We'll be at the Westin Boston Waterfront from Friday January 15 through Monday January 18, and we hope you will too!
Arisia will be adopting a new and improved registration system at con in January. To prepare, we'll be closing online registration on December 31. MEMBERSHIPS WILL STILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR! We just need to close up shop for a few weeks to make sure the new system is working as it should.
Registration is also MOVING! Starting at Arisia 2016, Registration will be located on the Concourse (take the escalator or elevator next to Sauciety down to the hallway approaching the Grand Ballrooms). There will be plenty of signs pointing the way.
Volunteer for Arisia 2016
We want you to join Team Arisia. Just fill out our Volunteer Form so that we can count you in!
Team Arisia Headquarters will be located in the Quincy room on the lobby level, near Starbucks. Be sure to come in for your staff ribbons, timesheet, T-shirt, and nifty swag. Hang out, relax, and enjoy some snacks!
Why Join Team Arisia?
All volunteers get a cool Arisia water bottle to keep you hydrated at the convention.
Eight hours of volunteering earns you a free staff T-shirt at the convention (only available to volunteers)
Twelve or more hours earn you a free membership to next year's convention.
Volunteers who help for at least 6 hours on Wednesday (truck loading), Thursday (load-in and set-up), and/or Friday (load-in and set-up ONLY, generally until 3 PM), are eligible to earn a Arisia 2016 membership. Make sure you get your timesheet signed!
You could earn all your hours for a free membership for Arisia 2017 and never miss a minute of Arisia 2016!! Just help out Monday (tear-down and load-out ONLY, generally after 3 PM) or Tuesday (load-out and truck unloading) for at least 6 hours to earn next year's membership!
Just being a volunteer can bring its own satisfaction. Without volunteers, we wouldn't have the convention that is Arisia. Everyone, from our Corporate President, Convention Chair to the person who has just an hour at the convention to give, is an unpaid volunteer giving his or her time to help make the Arisia Convention a success.
If you'd like some specific ideas about where to volunteer, take a look at the Arisia 2016 Org Chart or just shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know you're interested in joining us!
Music, Dance, and Theatre to join
Music Track and Events have been busy planning a rich array of music, song, and dance for you to participate in, here are just a few
Bring your instruments! Plenty of musicians come to Arisia and like to jam. Get some of the minstrels to join you! Prepare your songs for the Doom, Gloom, & Despondency song competition and/or the Open Mic! You can sign up in advance for those, and for the various music workshops, at-con in the Program Nexus, or pre-con at: http://www.arisia.org/musictracksignups
Bring your bathing suit! Once again, we’ll have Singing in the Pool.
Bring your dance shoes! We’ve planned a smorgasbord of dances, including regular and techno contras, Renaissance, Victorian, Swing, Blues, and Club.
And, as always, we’ll have a plethora of open song sessions, themed and un-themed.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Dance: Join us for a fun afternoon of dancing. We'll teach easy country dances and waltzes from the time of Jane Austen and perhaps time travel for some "Thriller" moves. Whether you are a Regency dandy or a Regency zombie, you'll have a great time.
Unholy Masquerade, a Cheesy Vampire Ball: Calling all vampires and werewolves (but not swearwolves) to the best ball at Arisia. Sparkly or non-sparkly, emo or fun-loving, all vampires and their friends are welcome. Dancing will consist of easy and fun historical contradances, waltzes, polkas and gallops.
Music, Dance, and Theatre to enjoy
If you would rather watch others perform, there are plenty of opportunities for that too!
Showcase Concert: Presenting five talented performers never before featured at Arisia, from all over the US and beyond!
Wandering Minstrel program: Throughout the weekend, we’ll have designated minstrels performing in public spaces.
We will have the Geeky Bellydance crew back for 2 hours+ of entertainment
The Post-Meridian Radio Players are doing: Gender-Swapped Star Trek: “Journey to Babel”
Under the new direction of Crow Meloccaro, Arisia's security team has been renamed The Watch If you need assistance during the convention, they'll be easily recognizable in fluorescent work vests with "The Watch" written clearly on the back.
If you are a photographer and you would like to offer your services to Arisia attendees, please consider registering as a Commercial Photographer with the link above.
We will be opening up a new coat check this year! We will have a Coat Check on the concourse, opposite Registration, and a new location on the Lobby level, outside the Marina Ballrooms.
A reminder from Access, if you would like priority seating for the Masquerade (or other large events) so you can see or hear the performance, or if you need to skip lines to avoid standing for too long, please email email@example.com, or see the Information Desk in the lobby at the convention.
To help ensure our members' happiness and a successful convention, we have established a Code of Conduct and Behavior Policies for all members and staff. Please read this document and help us have a safe and welcoming convention for all.
