in the historical event held in St. Peter's Square. The Grand Master greeted and thanked Pope Francis at the end of the ceremony, and visited the volunteers of the Order on first-aid duty

The Grand Master in South Africa
The Order of Malta’s relief organisation in South Africa, the “Brotherhood of Blessed Gerard”, has been operating in Mandeni, 100 km north of Durban, since 1992. Active in numerous sectors, the main mission of the organisation remains treating and assisting HIV/AIDS patients.
Official visit of the President of Liberia to the Sovereign Order of Malta
Liberian President and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was received by the Grand Master Fra’ Matthew Festing in the Magistral Palace. In her speech the President thanked the Sovereign Order of Malta for its much valued medical and social care support for her country.

Cooperation Agreement renewed between Italy and the Sovereign Order of Malta
This accord for the Order of Malta's Italian Military Corps, signed by the Italian Minister for Defence Mario Mauro and the Grand Chancellor Jean-Pierre Mazery, involves “first-aid activities during wars, natural disasters, emergencies and in humanitarian peacekeeping missions". The Corps was founded in 1877.
World Water Day: improved conditions in Cambodia
In Cambodia, the lack of sanitation and clean water leads to serious health problems and is a major contributing factor to poverty. The Order of Malta has managed a water, sanitation and hygiene project since 2011.
International Strategic Seminar in Rhodes
Led by the Grand Master, the five-yearly conference brought together the Order of Malta’s government, leaders of national associations, diplomats, members and directors of volunteer corps to discuss future strategies and the challenges to be faced.
