The eNewsletter for the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches

Walking With Jesus

It's always exciting to hear of a new brother or sister in the Lord. The enthusiasm they exude once they realize what Jesus did for them on the cross is infective! That was the case recently at a brand new church in Indiana where they experienced the joy as a new believer was baptized by a young pastor who was leading a baptismal service for the first time.

Check out this week's featured book, the popular Walking Like Jesus Did by Larry McCall. Now in it's third printing, the book has been widely used for personal reflection and in small group Bible studies to help believers understand what it means to walk as Jesus did.

If you enjoy this newsletter, would you forward it to one friend within your church and encourage them to subscribe? It's the best way to stay connected with news, ministries, and events within congregations of the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches (FGBC).

New Church Holds First Baptism

Aaron Scantlon, church planter/pastor of Empty Hands Bible Church in Winona Lake, Ind., reports his first baptism -- for the church and for himself as a pastor.

"Javares Cooks accepted Christ this April after one of our Core Team members shared the gospel with him," Pastor Aaron reports. "And due to his public testimony, three more came to me afterwards and said that they also want to get baptized!"

The church began meeting just five weeks ago as an outreach of the Winona Lake, Ind., Grace Brethren Church (Bruce Barlow, lead pastor). This last Saturday, there were 50 people in attendance. Designed to be a multi-cultural congregation, services are held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturdays. They meet in the Hub, the youth and community center of the Winona Lake church.

One reviewer says: "[Walking Like Jesus Did] goes a step further than the popular catch phrase "What Would Jesus Do?" and asks the poignant question, "What DID Jesus do, and how must I walk as He did?" The book examines the life of Christ and the pattern He provided for every believer. Each chapter deals with a different character trait of Christ - His meekness, forgiveness, prayer life, patience, compassion, etc., and then addresses what the life of the Christian should look like in light of those truths. At the end of each chapter are discussion questions that would be appropriate for personal and private reflection, or in a group setting."

This challenging but easy-to-read handbook helps Christians better understand what it means to walk as Jesus did. McCall explains that mirroring the character of Jesus should be the normal pattern of life for a Christian. He lays out 14 character traits of Jesus’ life, and he explains how those traits can and should be reflected in the daily lives of Jesus’ followers. Field-tested discussion questions make the book a “natural” for small-group use.
