The view from Bermondsey.
550 x 550 mm watercolour framed
The Shard is exhibiting and selling 2 paintings by Paul Vick for the 10 x 10 exhibition for the charity Article 25 (UN Declaration of Human Rights).
The event brings together 100 of the world’s artists, architects and designers in the most famous city in the world, London. 10x10 is a grid of 10 squares by 10 squares over London, and this year the squares are centred on the Shard. The grid takes in Bermondsey and Bankside as well as the southern portion of The City.

Paul Vick's square is on the south side of the Thames. Bermondsey, mentioned in the Domesday Book, is where Turner in the C19th painted the scrapping of the old warship 'Termaire' and is also the setting for Oliver Twist. It was originally a higher oasis in surrounding marshland according to Anglo Saxon records. Perhaps it was a point of look out over its less inhabitable surroundings.  Today, Bermondsey inhabitants look up at the Shard, a distant background to local architecture.

They no doubt have different views.
Is the figure in the foreground in awe or with other emotions - positive, negative, dominated, dominating or distant for example?.
Online bidding is now open. The online bidding closes at 23.59 tonight with the highest bids from the online auction then used as the starting bids for the auction at The Shard on November 27th. This year includes work by Anthony Gormley, Norman Foster and Norman Ackroyd as well as Paul Vick, at sometimes surprisingly low prices. Paul Vick also participated in 2013 when over £80,000 was raised for charity. The auction will take place on the 24th floor of the London landmark.
