Abraham Lincoln/Civil War 150th Anniversary Events Along the Mother Road in April & May
 
Springfield and Lincoln, Illinois have a number of events planned coming right up to commemorate the death of President Lincoln and the end of the Civil War.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum has a number of events planned, including Remembering Lincoln's "Undying Words" - a collection of his papers that runs through the end of the year.

On April 15th at the museum there will be a special presentation titled "A. Lincoln – A Remembrance," a 45-minute service with a flyover by Navy jets, music from the Air Force’s Shades of Blues Brass Quintet and the Chicago Black Hawks’ Jim Cornelison, and appearances by humorist Tom Dreesen and Tuskegee Airman Lawton "Wilk" Wilkerson. The event is at Noon in Union Square Park.

There are also special events going on at the Old State Capitol, Lincoln's Tomb, and presentations of the play Our American Cousin at Hoogland Center for the Arts - the play Lincoln was attending when he was shot.

A Nation Mourns, April 15, 1865 is another special presentation held at Lincoln Heritage Museum at Lincoln College in Lincoln on April 12th.

The 2015 Lincoln Funeral Re-enactment will be in Springfield May 1st through May 3rd. For more info on all these events visit

The Mill Launches Indiegogo Crowd Funding Campaign

The historic Mill on 66 in Lincoln has launched a crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo to raise the funds to complete restoration of the famous restaurant into a museum. Mill volunteers report that so far it has been slow going with the project, but that even if the goal is not reached, the funds raised will still be issued to the Mill - there is still time to consider the campaign, which expires on April 25th. Donations are tax-deductible, and can also be made on the Mill website at www.savethemill.org.
Mark Your Calendars: 2015 Red Carpet Corridor & Blue Carpet Corridor Right Around the Corner!
 
The 9th Annual Red Carpet Corridor Festival wil be held on May 2nd & 3rd, 2015 and traverses 13 Communities from Joliet  to Towanda along a 90-mile stretch of Old Route 66 that collectively celebrates the Mother Road. Each town puts together its own events for the weekend, making for a great shopping and sight-seeing experience. Gather the family and take a trip down memory lane. Towns include Joliet, Elwood, Wilmington, Braidwood, Godley, Braceville, Gardner, Dwight, Odell, Pontiac, Chenoa, Lexington and Towanda. The first-ever Blue Carpet Corridor Festival is Fri-Sun, June 13-14, 2015, featuring 18 towns with a shared history of miners, mobsters and the Mother Road. Enjoy three days of fun and surprises! Participating communities include Chatham, Auburn, Thayer, Virden, Girard, Nilwood, Carlinville, Gillespie, Litchfield, Mt. Olive, Benld, Staunton, Livingston, Hamel, Edwwardsville, Glen Carbon, Troy and Collinsville. For more information visit
