Neglia Conservatory Alumni Success

Thousands audition. A handful are chosen. Neglia is proud to announce that two of our alumni this year have become a part of the chosen few. CONGRATULATIONS to Yuha Tomita (pictured above) and Manuela Chaher Lavalle. Both young ladies trained in Neglia's Pre-Professional Program and 5-Week Summer Intensive.

At the age of 12 Tomita, from Kanazawa, Japan,  attended Neglia's 2010 Summer Intensive Program. She was so enamored with the training that she was determined to study at Neglia full-time. In 2012, she returned to Buffalo and enrolled at Buffalo Seminary for high school and began a full-time training and the Neglia Conservatory. During her time at NCB she worked one on one with acclaimed choreographer Viktor Plotnikov at NCB and appreared in NBA productions of Baba Yaga, The Nutcracker, Giselle and Romeo & Juliet and Dancing to Live.  Her dedication paid off this past summer when she was officially offered a trainee position with Joffrey Ballet!

Lavalle of Argentina has a similar start here at Neglia. After receiving the Jose Neglia Scholarship in 2013 to attend Neglia's 5-Week Summer Program, Lavalle chose to return in the Fall of 2014 to continue training full time. Unable to enroll at Buffalo Seminary, Manuela was determined to find a way to study at NCB. Thankfully, The Sam Family offered to host her for the year- their generosity allowed for Manuela to pursuit her dream. She, like Tomita, trained 6 days a week in the Pre-Professional Program and studied under the private instruction of Sergio Neglia weekly. She also performed in Baba Yaga, and The Nutcracker. Her hard work lead her to a 2nd company position with Nashville Ballet.

Our boys are suceeding too! Check our out Facebook page to see an update from Rorey Fraser who was accepted to train at Charlotte Ballet last year. We missed him in classes but were are proud to see how well he is doing!

Building Ballet in Buffalo

Progress continues on the build-out of Neglia's new studios at Tri-Main Center, in preparation of our move in September.

Phase 1 of our Building Ballet in Buffalo Campaign, which ended July 31st, raised over 80% of our $310,000 goal. We still have some gaps in funding to fill (feel free to donate!) but we would like to send a huge thank to all of our donors and a supporters so far and a special thank you to our major contributors including NYS Assembly- Sean Ryan, Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, Delaware North, The John R. Oishei Foundation, The Margaret Wendt Foundation, M&T Charitable Foundation, Linda Wadsworth, Dr. Steven and Suzanne Evans, Rigidized Metals, Aaron Carlson and Dennis Ng,

As we enter Phase 2 of our campaign, your support is needed to raise the remaining funds needed to enable a smooth transition, including installation of dance floors, exercise equipment, and to secure Neglia Ballet's future as Buffalo's own world-class ballet company and conservatory.

Thank you for helping us build ballet in Buffalo!
Board Member Spotlight
Neglia Ballet welcomed two new board members in 2016- Aaron Carlson (pictured top left) of Dale Associaties and Michael Zabel of M&T Bank.

This month we would like to spotlight Aaron Carlson in recognition of his generosity and expertise. Carlson and his partner made a multi-year donation to Neglia's Capital Campaigning reserving naming rights to our new Reception/ Store area in the welcome center!

As a first time donor to Neglia we were impressed with their giving nature and set up an in-person meeting to thank him- from there he was a natural fit. Neglia is elated to have him as our Board Treasurer.

Aaron Carlson is the Director of Finance at The Dale Association, Inc. located in Lockport, NY. Aaron graduated from Texas Tech University in 2008 with a dual bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Accounting and a master’s degree in Public Administration. Aaron has served as the Illinois State Chair for Legislative issues for the Akita Club of America from 2010-2013. Aaron currently serves as the National Chairman for the Public Education Committee for the Akita Club of America.
