About the exhibit
There's No Place Like Home explores the place we make our nest. Artist Becky Hawley draws the viewers awareness to the familiar dwellings of home, and into the unfamiliar spaces that others consider home. What is the significance of this place we call home? Why do we feel "at home" in certain spaces and not others? With her art, Becky asks the viewer to consider what makes them feel at home.
To honor those who do not have a safe place to call home, Becky has taken on the artistic endeavor of creating small paper houses for individuals who donate $5 or more to the Community Life Center. Donations will be accepted throughout the month of August. A representative from the House of Neighborly Service will be on hand at the August 8th reception to share more information about the new Community Life Center. The The funds raised will help those in need of a home.
About the artist
Becky Hawley is fascinated by stuff. Her background in graphic design gives her an appreciation for books and typography, so the deconstruction and reconstruction of books is a natural part of Becky’s artwork. Hawley enjoys bringing meaning to ordinary objects that you might otherwise overlook. “Old items already have a story to them,†says Becky, “I like to create artwork that gives them a new story."
