Terrorist Threats in Response to Film

Call for burning US embassies, killing US ambassadors & operations in the West.
On 15 Sep. 2012, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) issued a written statement calling for the burning of US embassies and the killing of US ambassadors and envoys. The statement said, "the incident is a major one when the various efforts should collaborate in order to aim to expel the embassies of the United States from Muslim countries, to continue the demonstrations and protests as happened in some Muslim countries, and to set fire to these embassies as our zealous people did in Egypt and Yemen. Whoever, from among our Muslim brothers, captures US ambassadors or envoys, he may follow in the footsteps of the grandsons of Umar al-Mukhtar in Libya who set the best example by killing the US ambassador, may God reward them for their adherence to Islam. The step of expelling the embassies and consulates is a step toward liberating Muslim lands from US hegemony and arrogance."

The statement went on to call on Muslims in the West to carry out attacks due to their easy access to targets. It said, "We call on our Muslim brothers in the West to do their duty in championing the Prophet, prayers and peace be upon him and his household, for they are the most capable of overcoming and easily accessing the enemy."

The statement closes by recalling the words of Osama bin Laden used to mark an upcoming attack by saying, "
The answer is what you see, not what you hear."

To date, the Taliban, Jihad & Change Front in Bahrain and al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) have issued threats of retaliatory attacks. More groups will follow over the coming days. The threat posed by organized terrorist and rebel groups to conduct revenge attacks will remain high long after the protests have died down. In fact, the threat will increase over the coming weeks as operations envisioned this week begin to move through the operational cycle towards execution. In the past these threats have often been acted upon. Large-scale terrorist attacks tied to the "Innocence of Muslims" film can be expected over the next 16 months. Key targets will be US diplomatic facilities but not limited to them.
