News & Events

Meet the District-14 Candidates for City Council!

The Lakewood Hills Neighborhood Association would like to invite all Lakewood Hills residents (and friends) to meet the three candidates for District-14 City Council this Sunday afternoon. Please see below for specific hour windows for each front yard social. Take a walk, bring your kids, and get educated. This is particularly important to Lakewood Hills this year with our active conversations with the city around the currently undergoing traffic assessment study and petition to make our streets safer. RSVP to the Facebook event to get it on your calendar and share with friends.

Meet Paul Ridley: 1-2pm
Teresa Bond’s front yard: 1805 Loving Ave

Meet David Blewett (incumbent): 3-4pm
Rosanne and David Smythe’s front yard: 7002 Coronado

Meet Elizabeth Viney: 5-7pm
Amy Ananian’s front yard: 6925 Clayton Ave

See fliers posted within the Facebook event and at the end of this email for fliers/details from the candidates themselves. The neighborhood association is not endorsing a candidate nor are we sponsoring these events: but we urge everyone to educate themselves.

Early voting is April 19-27. Election day is May 1.

Traffic Improvements Petition Update & Next Steps

Quick update on this project: after sending the Lakewood Hills Traffic Petition to Councilman Blewett AND the full list of specific requests for stop signs, speed bumps, speed reduction as collaborated on by all of us (list on this Google Doc), the traffic study is underway. We will have results in about 3 weeks. Once we learn what the city recommends, we will have a neighborhood meeting to discuss next steps. The board has specifically asked that we don't get a blanketed "no" to requests as has happened before; it will be a discussion as to why, and we will also discuss avenues of getting done what we need even if the city does not deem it necessary (meaning, potentially get funded in another way). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to Alex at board@lakewoodhills.org. We'll definitely make improvements happen, and thanks for all your collaboration! Please feel free to bring this up when you meet candidates on Sunday.

If you're new to the neighborhood or have missed this project, this Advocate press did a good job summarizing it.

Neighborhood Garage Sale – This Saturday!

We have all spent the last year cleaning out closets, right? Let’s get rid of that stuff! Tomorrow is the  Neighborhood Garage Sale. What we do is publicize the event on social media and put out signs around the perimeter of the neighborhood. What you do is have your own sale. You make your own hours, put up your own sign in your yard and get your own permit from the city (note: this deadline has passed, but fine to still participate at this point last minute). If have any questions, please email Donna Coker.
