Sustainable Education: Which Colleges Are the Greenest?

It's August, and our thoughts are turning back toward school. While NYC K-12 students still have a few more weeks of summer left, college students will start heading off to school this week. Which made us wonder: How do US colleges and universities stack up when it comes to sustainability?
Luckily, we aren't the only ones who wonder about these things! The fine folks over at the Sierra Club have compiled this handy list of the 10 greenest colleges, based on factors like energy use, food, investment portfolio, water, waste and transportation.
You can read the full list on Grist.org here, but suffice it to say, four of the top ten are part of the University of California system,. and none are in New York. So I guess we have some work to do, eh? Time to step it up, New York institutions of higher learning!

Come on a CHP Talk, Tour and Reception at Brooklyn's Whole Foods
We hope you'll join the NYSERDA EDGE team on a CHP tour of Brooklyn's Whole Foods Market, dubbed "the greenest supermarket in New York State" and learn how their CHP Combined Heat & Power) system helped them earn that title. You'll also be able to get information on how to install your own CHP system, and there will be a reception at The Roof.
The event will be held on August 27, and tickets are available here. Thanks to the generosity of the sponsors and host, we can offer this opportunity free of charge. Registration begins at 4:30 and the program begins at 5pm.
