E-NEWSLETTER • APRIL 2016
A LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Dear LCPCM Members and Friends,
Welcome to a very special community…your LCPCM! You have received the first edition of our e-newsletter. The e-newsletter will inform you on a monthly basis of information and events which may be of interest to you as a professional counselor. Our goal is to connect with you and help you feel you have a professional home in LCPCM.
Please remember to join LCPCM. You may join or renew your membership on the website www.lcpcm.org with discounts on the conference for active members. Your membership dues help us work effectively on your behalf.

Over the past months your board of directors has been working on projects that focus on improving our communication with you, our visibility as a profession and maintaining and improving our professional stability.

I hope to see you at the Spring Conference, where we will elaborate on these, and other issues:
  • New website: Please check us out www.lcpcm.org
  • PCSN: Professional Counselor Supervisor Network www.lcpcm.org  click “Find a Therapist”
  • A new national organization specifically dedicated to professional counselors:  www.apccounseloralliance.org
  • Coalition for Concerned Counselors: a forum to discuss issues with CACREP only www.concernedcounselors.org
  • Lobbying in Annapolis: Robyn Elliott, lobbyist,  effectively expresses LCPCM’s opinion to our state lawmakers on bills which impact professional counselors in general, and LCPCM specifically.
I eagerly look forward to seeing you at our Spring Conference on April 29, at the Sheraton in Columbia, where we will learn together, earn CEU’s together, and share thoughts and ideas to further our profession as counselors in Maryland.

Mollie Thorn, LCPCM Board of Directors President
Featured Board Member: Lashay Johnson
Each month we will feature a member of LCPCM and ask them to share with us information about their work, inspiration, and self-care. For now, we have decided to introduce you to us, the board members of LCPCM, so that you may have the opportunity to get to know us better!

Where and what type of work do you do?
Currently, I work in Southern Maryland. However, my practice is dynamic in that I provide clinical services at a few different locations. I am a partner in a group private practice at The Pinnacle Center, I provide contracted clinical care for persons suffering with severe mental health presentations at Vesta Inc., I provide on site clinical services for students in the Prince George's County school system, and I own and operate a solo private practice (Blank Pages) where I primarily administer PsychoEducational testing.

How do manage self-care?
Well, the truth is, I do a number of things. There is however, a common thread of motivation that resonates

for all of them, which is the need for a personal outlet away from the clinical work that I do. My self-care often includes mentally, or physically stimulating activities. These activities range from meditating in open nature, crafting, writing, or cooking for and dining with my children, to exercising, and home improvement.

What about your work do you find inspiring?
It is an amazing feeling to be used as a vessel to help facilitate self-healing. When clients come in who have challenging histories, and I am privileged to help them confront, process, and compartmentalize those challenges, and ultimately build a level of resilience and other internal resources to live a fuller, more peaceful, and productive life; it is humbling. I find it wildly inspiring for my life to have documented experience of its purpose and meaning in the lives of others.
