We're Looking Forward to Being Together in Community at the SF Pride Parade

Our hearts are hurting here at Spirit Rock as we take in the violence directed at our siblings in Orlando. We need fierce and tender compassion right now and to be together with supportive companions. We're so glad we'll be with caring community at the San Francisco Pride Parade on Sunday, June 26, and that we will be walking with Grand Marshals Larry Yang and Fresh! White, and the Spirit Rock/East Bay Meditation Center Buddhist parade contingent in support of this year's Parade theme, "For Racial and Economic Justice."

We had hoped to have details about our Parade assembly area to share with you by now, but we just received word from the Parade organizers that we won't have the details for another week. So look for another email from us next week with the information you'll need to connect up with us at  the Parade.

Meanwhile, we want to update you on some other happenings:

We are providing a 34-passenger trolley for those who would like to participate in the Parade but are unable to walk the Parade route. If you would like to reserve a space on the trolley and haven't already, please email Kathryn Arnold.

As a member of the SR/EBMC Buddhist contingent, you will be given a "Waking Up Together" t-shirt to wear in the Parade. The beautiful, kaleidoscope t-shirt design, shown above, was created by Spirit Rock staffer, Leo Peralta. Thank you Leo! You'll receive your t-shirt at the Parade.

We are in need of additional Parade monitors. For safety, SF Pride requires that each contingent have two monitors for every 25 marchers and one monitor for every vehicle wheel. So we are still in need of 4 wheel monitors and 6 Parade monitors. To fulfill this volunteer role, you simply need to view a 10-minute instructional video and reply to SF Pride that you've watched it. If you're willing to fulfill one of these roles, please contact Levi Halberstadt.

Lastly, to conclude Pride Weekend, San Francisco Zen Center is hosting a post-Parade "Proud and Peaceful" sit from 4:30 to 5:30 pm that will be led by Larry Yang and Tova Green, co-founder of SFZC Queer Dharma. We hope you'll be able to join us at the Zen Center (300 Page St.) for this chance to practice together for the benefit of all beings.

"As we move through this beautiful and troubled world, may we vow to be a beacon of peace, a fearless carrier of respect and loving-kindness for all life, a teller of truth, a voice for justice, a protector of those who are vulnerable or targeted. May the power of wisdom, integrity and compassion be our guide."
