Two Prayer Requests!
We received word today that our crate with our household items and Joel's tools arrived in port in Mambasa. That is great news. The bad news is our work permits have not cleared immigrations and are required to release our crate through customs. AIM submitted our work permit paperwork 5 months ago. It normally only takes a few weeks to a couple of months at the most. Recently with the change of government here in Kenya, they have made a number of changes in how they process immigration papers and work permits. Everything is backed up there with no information as to when permits will be released. At this point it does not affect us being here or working in the hangar. It does however affect our crate clearing customs. They have told our shipping liaison that a work permit is required to get our stuff through customs. The port allows 3 days to get shipments through customs and off the dock property. After that they start charging a storage fee. With the work permit we would be able to have our shipment assessed normal custom fees for entry. We are not sure how much this is but it is a lot less than the other option. With out the permit, customs charges a lot higher fees for anything brought into Kenya. This could be substantial as a good portion of our shipment is Joel's tools and tool box and they rate tools at a fairly high rate.
Please be praying that our work permit is processed through and we receive word soon that it is ready. This could become a bigger issue shortly as we are only on a 90 day visa. We were expecting to have the work permit by now and it not be an issue.
Secondly please be praying that there is a way for our shipment to be cleared through customs with minimal expense. Our shipping liaison is investigating options of getting it cleared without the work permit and without the extra expense. Customs is aware that immigrations is going through a lot of changes and we pray they are understanding in the delay of the work permit. Fees are highly subjective and it all depends on the customs agents and how much they want to charge. We are praying for gracious hearts in evaluating the contents and value of the shipment. Also with regards to the shipment we pray for protection over it as it sits in Mambasa waiting to be cleared.
We thank you so much for continuing to pray for us as we serve here in Kenya. This has been such an exciting adventure and we are thrilled to finally be here in Kenya where God intended us to be. Thank you all for being a part of His work here.
In His Service,
Joel, LaReina, Renee and Ian
