Meet Breagh Bridge:

Heyo! My name is Breagh Bridge, and I am originally from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. I now live in West Kelowna, BC, on the traditional unceded territory of the Syilx People of the Okanagan Nation. I live near Okanagan Lake, where I spend most of the summer down at the beach swimming with my parents, my sister, Allie, and our dog, Lucy.

I was selected for YAC in August 2021; with Fast and Female’s support, I have organized two pop-up events in Kelowna, BC, including one on cross-country skis! Right now, a big part of my life is planning for my post-secondary education, as I will graduate High School in June 2023. A big factor for me when choosing a university is that they have supportive academic and athletic programs and a positive team environment so that I may continue to be an athlete throughout university. I am applying to start an Exercise Science degree so that I can continue to learn about the human body and advocate for women’s sport from a deeper knowledge base. I plan to apply the skills I learn as I continue to work with organizations like Fast and Female. I like to find time for myself throughout my week to stretch/do yoga and hang out with friends because this helps me unwind, and my New Year's Resolution is to read more - not school related - books! On a bigger scale, my favourite way to recharge is by going camping and hiking with friends and family. I am looking forward to doing more of this next summer!

See you on the trails!

What are your favourite ways to stay active and why is it important to you?

Sport has taught me so many valuable lessons and has made me the person I am today, but I say this with caution because it has taken me a long time to find a way to move my body that truly motivates me! If you haven’t found a sport that works for you yet, keep an open mind and keep trying new things. This will be challenging at times, but you will gain so many cool experiences! Throughout my life, some of the sports I have played include swimming, running, triathlon, soccer and softball. In 2018 I was invited by a friend from my running team to join the local ski club, and I fell in love with Nordic Skiing (and roller skiing in the summer!) Since then, I have met many of my good friends through the ski community and have gotten to participate in invaluable experiences at training camps across western Canada and recently experienced international racing. Nordic Skiing is my favourite way to move because I get to work on technique and endurance while enjoying being outside!
Who is your Role Model and why?

One of my Role Models is my ski teammate Clair Littlefair. I look up to her because she has balanced postsecondary education, ski training and coaching all at once. During her degree, she knew it would be important to keep active outside and enjoy time with her teammates. Clair is known for her pink mittens and positive smile, and although she is back in her hometown of Yellowknife, NWT, right now, I hope she comes back to Kelowna soon!

What's Cookin'?

First off, I drink a lot of tea, any kinda really, but Earl Grey and Cranberry are my current faves.

I am also a big snacker. Some of my favourites lately are:

  • A banana with peanut butter on it

  • An everything bagel with cream cheese

  • Cheese with jam on it (a little different but I would recommend it, it’s 10/10)
