AMWA 102 Conference Highlights

March 30 - April 2, 2017 in Burlingame, CA
AMWA's 102 Conference was a great success, with many new events catered to pre-medical students. We hosted our first pre-med symposium this year, with events like panels and suture clinics. ESTABLISH YOUR OWN AMWA PRE-MED BRANCH

Want to spread the mission of AMWA to your campus? As the founder of an official AMWA student branch, you will participate in a long tradition of working to advance the needs of women in medicine. AMWA provides its student members with invaluable benefits, such as professional support and friendship, opportunities for mentoring by established female physicians, and support for career and leadership development. BECOME AN iGIANT AMBASSADOR AT YOUR SCHOOL

AMWA has been a partner of the iGIANT (impact of Gender/sex in Innovation And Novel Technologies), an initiative started in 2015 out of the White House Office of Science and Technology and now being expanded in the private sector. AMWA has sponsored roundtables across the country, bringing together leaders within health, technology, and industry. AMWA would like to engage students through discussions and forums on campus that highlight the importance of gender and sex in the development of products, policies, and protocols. STUDENT RESEARCHERS NEEDED

AMWA has a number of projects that could use student researchers. You will be credited for your work on the AMWA website and can list this on your CV.

1. Research a woman physician who worked in World War I to add to our on-line exhibition (5+ hours)
2. Research a past AMWA President to add to our on-line exhibition (5+ hours)
3. Help create a bibliography of articles addressing gender equity in academic medicine (10+ hours)
4. Help research the year and name of the first woman medical graduate from each medical school in the country (10+ hours with the opportunity for poster presentation)
5. Help create a list of programs supporting women in medicine at each medical school (10+ hours)
