Thank you for subscribing to updates on NEFE's Financial Workshop Kits. We have interesting updates to share this month.

Free Tax Resources

What is more stressful than Tax Day? It turns out, only a day of mass tornadoes (source: Gallup-Healthways Well Being Index). Fortunately, we are here to help. If any of the people you work with are in need of tax help, share the following resources:
  • Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) offers IRS-certified volunteers to help qualifying taxpayers prepare and file their tax returns. To find out who qualifies and where assistance is available, visit www.irs.gov.

  • Saving Through Tax Refunds is a free Financial Workshop Kit that helps people who live paycheck to paycheck start a savings plan. With a savings plan in place, people can start to build an emergency fund and save for goals.

  • Get Credit for Your Hard Work is Consumer Action’s new booklet about how the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC, or EIC) can put money back into the pockets of qualifying low- and moderate-income working taxpayers when they file their tax returns. The free PDF booklet is available in English, Chinese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Korean.

Help Us Enhance the NEFE Evaluation Toolkit

Measuring the impact of a financial education program is essential, and that is why NEFE provides its free Evaluation Toolkit. To ensure that the Evaluation Toolkit is helpful and user friendly, we are surveying users and we value your feedback. Click here to take the survey through March 9, 2016.

Help Participants Prepare for Your Workshops

Imagine how much more effective it would be to present our Planning and Paying for Utility Costs workshop to participants who know how much they actually can—and do—spend on utilities. Imagine presenting our Car Buying workshop to participants who actually know how much they can spend on transportation.

When participants arrive with an understanding of their situation, the workshop information really comes alive and they can immediately put it to use. To achieve this, contact participants a few days before the workshop and send them any worksheets that would help them prepare (such as the Spending Plan worksheet). While you may not have the luxury of a list of participants and contact information at all times, when you do, take advantage of it!
