Tell Congress to Pass a Budget that Increases Funding for Early Learning

After U.S. House passage of Build Back Better with $400 billion for early childhood education, Congress ultimately negotiated down to a reconciliation package that included zero dollars for child care and early learning. Even on the floor of the Senate, however, multiple members of Congress spoke about their commitment to child care and their recognition that something must be done to address the current and looming crisis.

We need Congress to pass a budget that includes early care and education funds so that Pennsylvania can ensure:

  • Thousands of children are removed from child care waiting lists.
  • Thousands of child care and pre-k programs fill teacher vacancies and empty classrooms.
  • Thousands of eligible families enroll in the child care subsidy program.
  • Thousands of child care and pre-k teachers make more than poverty wages.
  • Thousands of child care and pre-k teachers receive benefits.
  • Thousands of families return to work.

Your Year-End Gift Makes a Difference

Research shows that 90% of brain development occurs in the first five years of a child's life. As children progress through these formative years, their caregivers have profound and lasting impact on their learning and development of healthy relationships.

Over the last several years, young children, their families, and their educators have experienced overwhelming stressors in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Early Childhood Educators continue to navigate the instability of staff retention and hiring while maintaining safe environments for themselves and those in their care.

  • Families are working to define new routines and a sense of stability while struggling to obtain care amidst center closures and long waitlists at high-quality centers.

  • Children are trying to catch up after the loss of in-person interactions left them behind in building the social-emotional skills needed to form healthy relationships.

We at Trying Together are committed to advocating for and supporting them to meet their varying needs. Your support is crucial in achieving our outcomes and supporting caregivers and educators in shaping the future through the children entrusted to them.
