We entered 2020 in a period of transition, focused on renewing and rebuilding after losing our long-term core funding support in 2019. Of course, we had no idea what new challenges 2020 had in store for us. But throughout this time, we have been continually inspired and humbled by the continued backing of our community. Your support is needed now more than ever to sustain and grow the Manitoba Eco-Network in a critical moment for our environment.

The laws and policies protecting Manitoba’s environment are under attack. Widespread deregulation has quietly been taking place in Manitoba’s environmental sector. This ongoing environmental deregulation reflects the priorities of a government that values unsustainable development over conservation and ease of industrial project approval over democratic governance.

The Manitoba Eco-Network will hold its Annual General Meeting on Thursday December 10th at 11:30 AM CST. This year our AGM will be held virtually using Zoom. If you did not get an invite last week, that probably means your membership needs to be renewed.

Members in good standing can vote at the AGM. We are also seeking new board members (must be a representative of a member group). If you are interested in joining our board, please reach out to Glen at executivedirector@mbeconetwork.org

We plan to keep the business part of this meeting brief. We will also be presenting the 2020 ‘Anne Lindsay Protecting our Earth Award’. There is still time to nominate a deserving group or individual before the deadline of November 30th (nomination form available here). We will also be leaving time for updates from member groups in attendance.

Next Tuesday, December 1st is Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to giving to causes you really care about, like protecting our environment in Manitoba and building community climate resiliency.

We are working hard to strengthen the environmental community's voice in Manitoba. Click here to support our work on Giving Tuesday.
The climate crisis will impact Manitoba farms and food systems, but it’s also a chance to restructure and reimagine how we farm and feed our province. View the recording from our November 19th Food and Farming in a Climate Emergency webinar here
