Alumni, students and faculty recognized during Week of the Nurse
Week of the Nurse
Several VCU School of Nursing students and alumni received scholarships at the Week of the Nurse ceremony and tea hosted by VCU Health's Nursing Services. Student recipients included Erin Pacelli, master's degree student (nursing administration and leadership), Barbara Farley White Scholarship; Megan Grizzard, master's degree student (family nurse practitioner), Barbara Farley White Scholarship; Victoria Tedeschi (B.S.'12/N), master's degree student (family nurse practitioner), Barbara Farley White Scholarship; and Katherine Whitesell, RN to B.S. student, Bernal RN to B.S. Scholarship. Alumni recipients included Elizabeth Nottingham (B.S.'00/N), Carol Crosby Excellence in Nursing Administration Scholarship, and Tammie Shatzer (B.S.'02/N), Andrea Georgette Cheek Scholarship.

During another Week of the Nurse ceremony, Jeanne Walter, RN, FAAMA, Ph.D. (Ph.D.'05/N), clinical assistant professor, received the VCU School of Nursing Excellence in Teaching Award.

Patricia Kinser, Ph.D., RN (B.S.'03/N; M.S.'04/N; Cert.'04/N) assistant professor, was recently interviewed for a NBC 12‬ story about her study on the effect of yoga on depression during pregnancy.

She was also featured in an article about her study in the Richmond Times-Dispatch and on Richmond Magazine's blog, which also includes a brief on Beth Rodgers, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, professor and chair of the Department of Adult Health and Nursing Systems.

Candace Johnson, RN, Ph.D. (B.S.’07/N; M.P.H.’07/M), assistant professor, was recently featured for a second time in Urban Views Weekly for her work on African American women's health issues. The first article was published May 3.
SON recognizes 179 new graduates
SON recognizes 179 new graduates
The VCU School of Nursing recognized 179 graduates Friday, May 13, during the Spring 2016 Recognition Ceremony at the Siegel Center. A highlight of the ceremony was a $2,296 check presentation from the traditional B.S. Class of 2016. The funds will go toward a scholarship for a senior in the traditional Class of 2017.
