Nominations open for 2017 alumni awards


The VCU School of Nursing Development Office is seeking nominations and self-nominations for the 2017 alumni awards. Alumni of the St. Philip School of Nursing, MCV School of Nursing and VCU School of Nursing are eligible for these awards, which are Outstanding Nursing Alumnus Award, Outstanding Nurse Service Award, Outstanding Nurse Practice Award and Outstanding Young Alumnus Award. The awards will be presented April 8 during Reunion Weekend. Nominations should be submitted by Feb. 15 and should be no longer than 500 words. Read more.

Alumni recognized with Best Bedside Manner Awards


Twelve VCU School of Nursing alumnae received the 2016 Best Bedside Manner Awards presented by OurHealth magazine. OurHealth publishes print and digital editions to specific communities throughout the commonwealth of Virginia. This award honors medical providers who were voted by the local community for their kindness, empathy and attentiveness. Read more.

Langston Center lecture on nurse practitioner care in community health centers


The Langston Center for Quality, Safety and Innovation hosts a lecture, "State Scope of Practice Policies and the Quality of Nurse Practitioner Care in Community Health Centers," by Ellen T. Kurtzman, Ph.D., M.P.H., RN,
FAAN, associate professor at the George Washington University School of Nursing, at noon Wednesday, Feb. 8. Kurtzman will present findings from her recent study, which examined some of the important theoretical and empirical assumptions that underlie the justification for nurse practitioner restrictions. Mark your calendar for Reunion Weekend 2017


Classes ending in 2 and 7 and grand alumni are invited back to campus April 7-9 for Reunion Weekend. Class parties are held Friday, an all-class brunch, simulation demonstrations and MCV Campus events are Saturday, and events honoring the Class of 1967 and grand alumni are Sunday. Doctoral programs application deadline extended
