Eden Mennonite Church

Unique Thanksgiving Display
The congregants at Eden Mennonite Church collected diapers, formula, wipes & other baby needs for the Meadow Rose Society. An organization in downtown Chilliwack that serves vulnerable young families. The generosity was overwhelming!!
MCBC Symphony of Hymns

MCBC's Symphony of Hymns 4 which happened on November 9 and 10
was a great success.  The singing was inspiring and the classical instruments brought a beautiful depth to our worship experience.   The offerings for the two events totalled $8,478.45.  Thank you to all who attended and to those who donated toward the ministries and mission of MCBC.
Many People - One Church
by Henry Neufeld

On Peace Sunday (November 10th) five metro Vancouver MCBC congregations gathered for a service of unity and a focus on peace:
  • Chinatown Peace Church
  • Peace Church on 52nd, host church
  • Peace Mennonite in Richmond
  • Point Grey Inter Mennonite Fellowship (PGIMF)
  • Sherbrooke Mennonite Church
The idea for a joint service came from Janice Kreider at a regular church leaders meeting. The intent was to celebrate and worship together, to strengthen relationships between congregations, and to promote our Anabaptist commitment to peace. An inter church committee planned the event.

We are very thankful that Jon Reesor has been called as pastor at Bethel Mennonite Church in Langley.  He was commissioned this past Sunday.  Jon & Emily are excited to be at Bethel.  Pray for Jon and for Bethel as we move forward in this new season for the church.
The Symphony of Hymns with Calvin Dyck and friends this past weekend was wonderful.  We give thanks to God for bringing together people to sing, to hear about the work of MCBC, and to give to this work as the Spirit leads.
Pray for the Unity in Christ Myanmar Church as they have applied for membership in MCBC, and we are discerning the details of this application.
Jesus is the centre of our faith.

We extend our sympathies to the family and friends of
Professor Emeritus Willard M. Swartley.
The Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary community lost a beloved colleague, teacher, mentor and friend when Professor Emeritus Willard M. Swartley passed away unexpectedly November 6th. The online article honours him and his contributions to the seminary, the church and biblical scholarship.  Article and pictures, available online

 Unsettling the Word
now in paperback edition

We have just released a beautiful new paperback edition of Unsettling the Word. Great for group or individual study, pick up a copy here:

Sara Stratton, Reconciliation and Indigenous Justice Animator for the United Church, says, “Unsettling the Word helps Christians take responsibility for the damage our sacred texts have done to Indigenous peoples and Creation. More importantly, it empowers us to read those texts – and act on them – in a profoundly different, restorative way.”

International Witness

Pantojas provide earthquake relief in Philippines

Witness workers Dann and Joji Pantoja, with PeaceBuilders Community, Inc., continue to be part of earthquake relief efforts in Mindanao, Philippines. The region experienced three magnitude 6 earthquakes in October. Local Davao churches and Bangsamoro Muslim partners are working together to provide relief in the mountainous areas most affected, especially among the Obo Manobo Indigenous people.  This is part of the Pantojas’ long-term inclusive development initiative in this community. For more information visit their website here.

Pray that people of various backgrounds will joyfully work together.
Pray for the Obo Manobo people who have lost homes and farms due to earthquakes and landslides.
