Sixth-Grade Conferences

Who? 6th Grade Families - Students are required to attend because the conversation is based around their patterns of thinking and learning.

What? Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences

Where? The Rec Center with be set-up with 5 tables so that there are 5 conferences in the room at once - a bell will transition families in and out of the room for their scheduled time.

When? 3 days next week - October 17, 18, and 19
  • Monday - 6th graders who have the Coding elective this semester (all art elective students are at the LACMA field trip)
  • Tuesday/Wednesday - 6th graders with Art elective this semester
Conferences are 20 minutes with a pair of teachers - 6th Grade families will receive an email to schedule their conference on SignUpGenius. Sign ups can begin at 7:00am this morning.

Why? At IVA, Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences are intended to:
  • Empower students to talk about their approach to learning in school in a safe and comfortable conversation with parents and teachers.
  • Help students, parents, and teachers use a common language when describing strengths and areas of growth.
  • Discuss practical implications of intellectual virtue practice in school.

6th grade students will have time in class to prepare for these conferences and will come home with a reminder card on Friday to prepare families for the protocol.

Picture Day
We have had beautiful school pictures taken by Classic Image Photography at IVA. Photo Day at IVA is a great undertaking and it is made possible with the volunteer organization of Dana Lowe, 8th grader Kat's mom.

This year, there will be TWO picture days, October 25 and 26th, to accommodate the larger student body; 8th grade students that may have a shadow day at high school, or if a child is absent on one of those days. Both of these days will be FREE dress days.

On Picture Day(s), school ID cards will be printed out on-site with the FIRST photo of the photo shoot. As before, ALL students will receive a photo ID card, whether or not a portrait package is ordered. Then additional shots for a portfolio will be taken for consideration of ordering. Proof sheets will be delivered to the school on Friday, Oct 28th for distribution to the students to take home for ordering. There will be 3 to 4 proofs of the best shots.

An order form will be sent home and orders are due 2 weeks afterwards. The due date for the order sheet is Nov 14th. Photos will be delivered to the school before the winter recess.

Will Classic Image still print my students pictures if I order after the deadline?
Yes! and the fees per sheet will be at Classic Image's studio rates, not their discounted school rates.

Who: 8th Grade Families
What: High School Choice Reservation System Opens for Shadow Day and Saturday Summit Registration

The LBUSD reservation system opens this Friday, Oct. 14, at 5:00 p.m. for Shadow Day and Saturday Summit Registration. Parents do not need a ParentVue account to register their student for Shadow Days or the Saturday Summits.

Shadow Days
Shadow Days are an optional activity that enable students to experience specific programs by "shadowing" a student/administrative representative during a regular school day. Families can sign-up their 8th grade student for two Shadows Days within the school year. Spots are first come, first served, and the high schools set the capacity for the number of slots. Families can register by visiting the LBUSD High School Choice website when the reservation system opens Friday, Oct. 14, at 5:00 p.m. Space is limited.

Saturday Summits
LBUSD will be holding two Saturday Summit events where they will have representatives from all 11 LBUSD high schools. This is a chance for families and students to interact with representatives from administration, teaching, parent support groups, and the student body. In addition to the booths each school will have, there will be six, 30 minute Pathway presentations. In order to attend a Pathway presentation, you must register for those events by visiting the LBUSD High School Choice website when the reservation system opens Friday, Oct. 14, at 5:00 p.m. Space is limited

The first Saturday Summit takes place:
Oct. 22, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Long Beach City College - Pacific Coast Campus,
1305 E. Pacific Coast Hwy., Long Beach, CA 90806.

The second Saturday Summit takes place:
Oct. 29, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Long Beach City College - Liberal Arts Campus,
4901 E. Carson St., Long Beach, CA 90808.

It's important to note that the first Saturday Summit on the LBCC Pacific Coast Campus is much smaller in size compared to the LBCC Liberal Arts Campus, though each Saturday Summit is identical in presentation and information. Attending either summit will suffice.

Please register for the Shadow Day and Saturday Summits by visiting the LBUSD High School Choice website when the reservation system opens Friday, Oct 14, at 5:00 p.m. For more information on upcoming High School Choice events and the application process, please check out our school website and school events calendar.
