Class of 2016 - leaders on campus!

Greetings Dear IVA Class of 2016 Families,
You all demonstrated great generosity during our major fundraiser for the year, the Winter Read-A-Thon. The PTA announced today that we met and surpassed our goal. Our goal was to raise $7,400 in order to begin a large bench project on campus and we raised $8,760 - way to go! The entire student body has earned this campus beautification project, an ice cream party (scheduled for the end of the month), and a free dress day (TBD). Of course, our kids and teachers make this campus a beautiful place to be through their open love of learning.

During the month of February we will extend this beauty and begin plans as a student body to become the leaders on campus in this next year. On Tuesday we get to celebrate a full day out of class with our staff as we learn from a program called Community Matters, focusing on how to continue to interact with one another positively as our school grows. Learn more about our Connect & Respect day below and on our website.

Parents:

Please accept our special invitation to connect with your kids at IVA for a picnic lunch on Tuesday. If you are able, bring a lunch and join other parents as we get a chance to eat together on our special day. We will eat from 12:20-12:50pm. Please join us!

To learn and live well,

Jacquie Bryant, Principal

Picture Day at IVA

Next Friday, February 14th, is our first ever Picture Day. The PTA unanimously agreed that this should be a free dress day. Local photographer, Vangie Ogg will provide 4-5 pictures of your kids that can be viewed online. You will be able to view, select and order your pictures online. Each picture, no matter the size, will cost $12 a piece. We will also be taking a school class picture. Check out Vangie's website to see a sampling of the quality work she does. If you are interested in volunteering to help make the day run smoothly, call the office and we will get a note to Maria Tchakal (Nabila's mom) who is helping to organize the event. In addition, our very own PTA will create ID Cards for our students and staff from these pictures.

Connect and Respect
Tuesday Feb 11th

Our students are amazing! Their combination of innocent playfulness is supported by a school culture of risk-taking that has been developed in the classrooms and in Advisories. Our goal is to continue this culture and have our founding students lead others in deep channels of communication, trust and compassion. Connect and Respect is a full day of play, team building and conversations guided by experts. Our teachers and staff will work in small groups to discuss forms of mistreatment and how to take action to support each other. The trainers are happy to incorporate opportunities for reflection and deep understanding so that this day is not just a day to grow closer together but to do it in the IVA way.

Do you know prospective Middle Schoolers interested in IVA?

We are now accepting applications! We have approx. 50 open spots for incoming 6th graders for our next school year. We will also have a few 7th grade spots. Applications are due March 21st. More info for prospective families is available on our new website (www.ivalongbeach.org). Our next Parent Info Night is Thursday, February 20th.
