Principal News: A Small and Personalized School
We appreciate the dedication of our families to help support IVA's culture of thinking, which comes with it a culture of embracing challenge and helping to apprentice students in taking on roles on intellectual autonomy. We know this is not an easy path, the work we are all doing in forming the minds of our students so that they are learning well in class and so that habits are formed to live well in their lives.

We have unfortunate news that our history teacher, Ms. Chloee Farris, is resigning. We are sad to see her go and are wishing the best for her! Please read below for Ms. Farris' letter to our community. Ms. Farris is a passionate and dedicated teacher who loves history almost as she loves the students of IVA. We will miss her very much!!
History Teacher Position
Dear Families - we need your help spreading the word! We have a current opening for a full-time history teacher position. To apply, send your referrals to view the job description, complete the application on EdJoin, the find out more about teaching at IVA on our website. I am biased but I cannot think of a more connected community of teachers and staff who are dedicated to the same mission as our school. It is a beautiful place to work!

Ms. Farris' Letter to Families
Dear Parents,

It is with deep sadness that I send to you this note informing you of my resignation as the sixth and seventh grade history teacher. I absolutely loved the days that I was able to teach your children, and they have been the most rewarding of my life, but unfortunately my health has taken a turn for the worse and I must focus on my health. Your children were all a joy to teach and their interactive interest and curiosity in the classroom made working at IVA the dreams that all teachers hope for. In the short time I was with them I was able to observe their growth as students and historians in the classroom, and I have full confidence they will continue to prosper and thrive this year. I will miss you all and your children very much, and I wish you all very well. I also wanted to sincerely thank you all for your support and understanding during the past few tumultuous months; your patience, well wishes, and positive thoughts and prayers made the difficult days much brighter and better, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. If you wish to contact me, you can still email me directly at

Wishing you all the best,
Mrs. Chloee Farris

PTSA General Meeting after school
The PTSA will host a parent meeting right after school at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, December 21st at the Foxes Corner. Cookies, coffee, and hot cocoa will be served to parents and students who attend! Come by the meeting and see what is involved with having a child in a charter school and why parent participation is vital.  Please join us!
This past Friday the 6 lunch tables for the students were put together! A huge THANK YOU to Paul Horejsi (Mark's dad), Jim Horejsi (Mark's uncle), Paul Hunter (Jacob's dad) and Sandra Grace (Donovan & Lana's mom) for spending over 5 hours Friday night completing the labor intensive project for the students. Their kids helped too! Thank you Mark, Jacob, Donovan and Nico!
We still need parents to Chair committees for the Spring Dance (April 27th), Movie Night (TBD), and a 6th or 7th grade parent to chair the 8th grade promotion (June 15th). Also, four of the main positions on the PTSA board are held by 8th grade parents. We will start the nomination process for next year in Jan. Please consider joining the board.

Intellectual Virtues Academy High School - Info Night for IVA Families
You are invited to an Info Night for IVA families on Thursday, December 22 at 6:00 PM to learn about the Academy’s college-preparatory academic program, including a-g, honors, and AP coursework.  We do not require our students to choose a specific pathway, instead we allow our students to pursue their academic interests within a comprehensive program. Just like IVA, we strive to develop the intellectual character of our students, but with a particular emphasis on those skills and capacities that we know universities increasingly are demanding of their incoming students – thinking critically, creatively, and with a capacity for self-growth.

At the event, you will be able to tour the school campus, learn more about our high school program, extra-curricular activities, participate in an interactive activity with a faculty member, and ask questions regarding the transition from IVA to the Academy. To reserve a spot, please contact Crystal Day, Outreach Coordinator, 562.283.4456.

Location: 1637 Long Beach Blvd.

We hope to see your family at the event!
