Welcome to the New Year 

We are jumping back into the new year with dedicated students, teachers and learning. It feels like our second honeymoon around here as students focus on their studies with renewed vigor and look forward to upcoming events. Check out our calendar below to see all the upcoming events and opportunities you have to get involved.

  • 7:00-8:30pm Parent Reading Group - discussing the article, "Even Geniuses Work Hard"

Jan. 17th 
  • Faculty Only Day - No School
  • Scarlett is performing Annie at Millikan H.S. 9-11am. It's a great IVA off campus event!! We can get a whole group of students to go - $5 a piece. Let's support Scarlett!
Jan. 20th
MLK Day - No School - 4 day weekend!

Prospective Parent Info Night - tell your friends and neighbors to come learn more about IVA

Jan 24th 6-9pm A Winter Wonderland Adventure.
Tickets are $5.

Talk to your student about how you can help:

1. Poster/Tickets/Publicity- Kelly Dempsey Chairing (Jillian's mom)
2. Decorations- Wendy Whalen Chairing (Delainey's mom)
Blue, white and silver themed - any decorations from the holidays that we can borrow would be much appreciated. 
3. Music/Entertainment - Erinn Baehr Chairing (Brendan's mom)
We're having a DJ and all sorts of inspiration to dance!
4. Food- Stacy Cook Chairing (Remi's mom)
Potluck with Finger Foods - if all families can bring a dish, we will feast - and dance!
  
Let's hear it for the moms! This is going to be one super dance. 
Consider reading January's Parent Reading Group selection: an article by Carol Dwek- Even Genius' Work Hard as an entry for our read-a-thon. Check it out - a practical explanation to take steps toward developing intellectual character. It's only a few pages long. (You have the tenacity!)
We Dream of Lockers -
Pictured is our designer's rendition of what IVA lockers might look like. There is still time to invite sponsors to help us meet our goal.

Green Team Greetings

IVA Basketball Team


We are excited to announce that 12 of our students have formed a basketball team to represent IVA!  Mr. Johnson, will be coaching our co-ed team with the great help of parents, including Chris Davidson (Troy's Dad). 

Parents will meet next week to finalize practice times and coordinate carpool as well as uniforms. Thank you to everyone involved for your creativity and flexibility in finding a sports program that will work with our new charter middle school! We will make sure to post all of our game days so you can cheer on our 6th graders.

We Dream of Benches - Our Read-A-Thon concludes Friday, January 10th! Funds will be collected by January 17th.

Recruitment Update

Open Teacher Position: We are actively interviewing for our 3rd trimester World Language Elective teacher. If you know of any excellent teachers who desire to develop critical thinking in students and are flexible and passionate about learning, then send them to our EdJoin posting. The job is for 12 weeks from 1:00-2:55pm, 5 days a week. 

We have aprox. 50 open spots for incoming 6th graders for our next school year. Applications are due March 21st. More info for prospective families is available on our website.
