Parent Newsletter November 7th

Greetings IVA Families,

This newsletter contains field trip pics, an invitation to a Family Paint Night Fundraiser hosted by our PTA and important dates in November. There's so many good things happening at IVA and in your families' lives in these next two months!! You are warmly welcome to take time in these next months to come to IVA to think, interact with other parents and celebrate thinking and learning together. In leu of parent conferences, feel free to schedule an individual conference with Mr. McCurry or Ms. Noble before trimester grades come out at the end of this month.

It is an honor to be a part of your child's learning life both in the classroom and outside of school. We appreciate your questions and concerns!! We know that you know your child best and want the best for them. The research in Paul Tough's book explains that cultivating character strength represents a life that is not just happy but meaningful and fulfilling. We all want this for our kids and are excited to do this good work together.

To learn and live well,

Jacquie Bryant, Principal

November 21st!
Parent Reading Group Night

Our first book club pick

Parent Book Club

Paul Tough's book How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity, and the Hidden Power of Character provides an overview of recent research from a variety of disciplines supporting the idea that success in school, and life in general, largely depends on intellectual character virtues like curiosity, intellectual perseverance, and "grit." The event will be structured to provide us an opportunity to talk together, propose questions and consider how we can support our students' character growth - from school, home and in our relationships. Our community partner, Apostrophe Books, has it in stock and is offering IVA families a 10% discount! We will meet in Mr. McCurry's room 116 from 7:00-8:30pm. Come to think and talk with adults who have much in common, most importantly - our kids!

The Natural History Museum

Thank You Chaperones!!

We had 10 parents volunteer and join our teachers over the last two days - it was heartwarming to see our parents wrangle, discuss and explore the museums together with students. Thank you, parents for volunteering your time. Our students were able to rotate through rooms and exhibits in their advisory groups of 8. We heard from students and teachers that this opportunity to be together was an advisory bonding experience that couldn't be duplicated on campus.
