We can hardly wait! Save the date for our musical Revue!
Broadway Musical Revue
Save the date! On Saturday, April 29th we are pleased to present two performances of IVA's first Broadway Musical Revue at 4:00 and 7:30. Join us to see performances from favorite Broadway musicals like Matilda, Newsies, Hair, Hamilton, and many more!
St. FOXES Day Friday
The Event Planning Club invites students to honor the coming of Spring on Friday, March 17th (St. Patrick's Day). We're calling it St. FOXES Day! Help us celebrate holiday the Foxes way! When everyone else is celebrating St. Patrick's day by wearing green, we will celebrate the coming of spring by wearing one bright color in monochrome. If you choose green, wear ALL green, yellow - ALL yellow. It is going to be a bright sunshiny day! (if you are not dressed in orange or black come in your regular dress).

Principal Update
Our school values are woven throughout all of our decision making at IVA, from instruction and grading to the teachers' relationship with students and the relationship we encourage students to have with each other and each other's ideas. We value openness and respect for others ideas and believe that a diversity of ideas helps to practice habits of good thinking. It is our goal that multiple voices would speak into our classrooms and our curriculum.

To that end, we asked our students in the mid-year survey about how class content and teachers help to make students aware of, or hear, diverse ideas and cultures. Our staff discussed this topic recently in our Teacher Advisory hour of professional development where Mr. Fountain facilitated a question of how we can respect and provide a space for diverse ideas and cultures. Read Mr. Fountain's blog post on our website here to see how history instruction can address questions of diversity.
Your Opinion Matters
Each year, every IVA teacher and staff member read the results and feedback from the midyear survey together in order to evaluate and adjust our practices. The midyear survey also gives us the data we use for charter renewal and communication with our community partners.

What do You Think of Our LCAP?
Our budget adoption process includes annually requesting stakeholder feedback for our LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan). This is the plan for how we are spending federal funds aligned to our school plans. Your responses will help our Principal and Board of Directors create the budget for the 2017-18 school year.

IVA Enrollment for 2017-2018 School Year
All families should complete an Intent to Re-Enroll form in Illuminate to help us anticipate any available spots in next year's admission. This also helps us make sure we don't miss any siblings in our upcoming lottery!

Speaking of siblings...families who have siblings entering 6th grade next year must submit an application by this Friday, March 17th to be entered into the Lottery and receive their exempt status. Hard copies of the application are available in the office.
Now Hiring
Our beloved teacher, Chris Fountain, will be moving to Louisiana at the end of the school year and we'll have an open history teacher position at IVA. We will deeply miss him! Please send any referrals to our job posting here and encourage them to apply!

Thanks and Praise
We are so grateful to Janet Watt and Little Owl for hosting Lenore Skenazy of Free Range Kids. It was a wonderfully funny and enlightening presentation. One question we all pondered: What is one thing you did as a kid that you struggle to let your child do now? And a challenge: What is one thing your child is ready to do that you can give them the freedom to try (pick up a younger sibling, walk or bike to school, walk to the convenience store, make dinner)?
