What is the Swim Practice Check In Process?

Welcome new and returning EBSC members to the 2019-2020 swim season! We have over 100 members registered with the club, and sometimes checking in for practices can be quite busy, especially as the weather turns cold and rainy. To help make the sign in process to flow smoothly, the following items are friendly reminders for all swimmers:

A. There are a maximum of 36 swimmers allotted for each practice, thus sign in will be on a first come, first serve basis.

B. For Tuesday and Thursday practices:
Swimmers registered for their dedicated swim time will have priority until 15 min before the start of practice.  At 15 min to the start of practice, other swimmers may sign in.

(e.g. For the 6pm workout: 6pm swimmers have priority followed by the 6pm waitlist and then the 7pm swimmers.
For the 7pm workout: 7pm swimmers have priority followed by the 6pm waitlist and then the 6pm swimmers).

What does this mean for me?
Being registered for a specific swim time does not guarantee you a spot at practice, so please show up early to secure your spot!

Note: Weekend practices are purely on a first come, first serve basis.

C. For All Practices:
The cut off for sign in is 10min before the start of practice! If you come after this time, you will not be able to swim. Please respect the decision of the sign in person. They are volunteering their time and need to get ready themselves to start practice on time.

D. Need a Month or 10 ticket Pass?
Please show up early, and have your order number ready for the sign in person.

Want more information about the sign in process and swimmer's etiquette? Please take a moment to review these documents here (scroll down to midway). Click on the "swim etiquette and tips" link for more detailed information.

Happy Swimming!

Two Sunday Practices?!

Did you know, there are now 2 practices on Sundays!!

Sunday Mornings (10:15-11:45am): 90 minutes practice in short course yards.
Want to work on more speed, and turns? These practices are more focused on sprinting! Don't worry if you're not a sprinter though, these practices are still fun and challenging!!! Guaranteed to be great workout! These session will be coached by Vlad.

Sunday Evenings (6:30-8:00pm): 90 minute practice in long course meters.
Who doesn't want to work on improving technique and decrease the likelihood of injuries? These practices are focused more on drills and techniques, and less about speed and distance. These sessions will be coached by Bryan.

Masters 101 Starts Oct 20th. Registration is now open.

Do you know any beginner swimmers who are thinking of taking their swimming to the next level, but not really sure what it's all about?

The Masters 101 program is a great introduction for swimmers who already know how to swim, and want to improve their confidence and swim techniques.

These sessions are coached by Carl in a supportive, non-competitive environment on Sunday mornings. Our goals for you are to gain confidence, endurance, and to learn how a typical workout is structured!

More information can be found here and registration is here.

North Shore Masters Sprint Meet Sunday, Oct 19th. Registration is now open.

Are you curious about racing? Thinking about participating in a swim meet?
Masters racing is less about being the fastest, and more about "Fun, Fitness, and Friendship." It's also a great way to bond with your team mates and meet new people. Every swimmer is welcome to participate, regardless of age, experience or speed.

The North Shore Meet is great introduction for first time racers! Pick your events, and then show up! This is a sprint meet, so all events are 200m or less. Come out and support your team mates, encourage each other to do their best and meet swimmers from other clubs.

There are several ways to register for this event. Instructions on how to register and the meet entry form can be found here:
Entries and payment can be sent to

The deadline to register is October 16th at 11am.

You will need your MSABC membership number to register. If you do not know what it is, please email If you had a MSABC membership last year, the number should still be the same.

Still confused on how to register or hesitant about attending your first swim meet? Ask your fellow team mates, coaches, or email the meet coordinator: for more information!

We Need Volunteers!

The club is run by volunteers, and it's also a great way to get to know your team mates! We are always looking for volunteers to assist with check in duty, and to help out at the EBSC's Love to Swim Meet, or volunteering your place to host social events. Email your exec if you are interested in helping out.

Welcome to a another season with a great team of coaches. Our plan this year continues to maintain the focus within Masters Swimming: “Fun, Fitness, Friendship!”
Our swim meet season has officially begun and even though that doesn't appeal to everyone in our club, we want to urge everyone to try and attend one meet during the season. It's not about being the fastest or the best, but also a good way to measure your improvement throughout the season, and you get team points by just showing up! Besides swim meets being a great deal of fun, the bonding with your club members is 100% worth the experience. If you are still hesitant, consider registering for our home meet, Love to Swim, in February. It is held at the VAC and is a great deal of fun/entertainment. Just ask anyone that has attended in the past!

Give Us Feedback

A reminder that we want feedback!

Once again this season we're looking for your personalized swimming plan! Email it to us. Let us know what you want to get out of your workouts. Totally voluntary of course, but it will help us tailor the workouts for you. If you like, include a photo of yourself so we will have an easier time learning who you are in person. The information will be strictly confidential - only for the coaches' eyes.

Private Screening of "Light In the Water"

Don't forget that there will be a screening on Tuesday, October 22nd, at 8:00 pm at Pacific Cinematheque of "Light in the Water" produced by our very own Nathan Santell

Purchase your tickets from the English Bay Swim Club websiteTickets are only $5!!!  Alcoholic beverages will also be available for purchase at the screening.

"Light in the Water" is a documentary about West Hollywood Aquatics (an LGBTQ2+ swim team in Los Angeles).

"In 1982, soon after the first Gay Games, 'West Hollywood Swim Club,' as it was known then, registered as the first openly gay masters swim and water polo club. This feature documentary film follows their battle for acceptance: from their humble beginnings, to how these men and women have become a renowned force fighting injustice in the world of competitive sports."

Also, if you have photos to add, email them to!

English Bay is partnering exclusively with Team Aquatics, which means...

DISCOUNTS on all your regularly priced swim stuff! The Shark Card can be used to order items online (and then can be picked up in store if you don't want it shipped). Check out the members page for access to the Shark Card.

Note, the Shark Card discount is for EBSC members only. Please do not share the shark card with non-members.

English Bay Swim Club has a rich history of record setting swimmers so we have decided to create an 'EBSC Club Records' section where we can tabulate and present these times.
Check out the EBSC Team Records Google spreadsheets (Men's, Women's and Relays).

In addition to our team records, EBSC also currently holds:
• Provincial Records - 105
• National Records  - 8

This is obviously a 'work in progress', seeing as records are made to be broken. The list will be in constant flux provided we receive input from the team membership. So, if you have set a new record for the club, submit your data to EBSC's Record Keeper with your name / event (LC or SC) / time / month & year and your record will be added to the list for all to see!

Check the EBSC Calendar and future BTLs for swim changes and/or cancellations.

Changes will also be posted on Social Media
