I recently read a history of the Spanish Flu. It was a fascinating read, I learned a lot, and it provided an interesting lens through which to consider our experience of Covid-19.
One of the big differences between the two is our focus on mental health (and the fact that we know it’s a virus!). This is a really important feature of our overall well-being and I just want to encourage you this week to consider how you’re going but also to ask someone else how they are.

From a physical perspective Covid hasn’t had an enormous impact on our area, but it has been a mentally and emotionally exhausting time. Checking in with each other is an important part of looking after ourselves and others. Just this week I met with a handful of other Baptist pastors of larger churches. We catch up four times a year and I was really looking forward to this get together to check in and to glean ideas about what they are doing to manage and lead their churches in this time. It was so encouraging just to be with them and it also gave me permission to acknowledge to myself (and them) that I have probably been carrying more stress than usual (not surprising, really). The opportunity to chat about it and pray with one another was a real blessing.

Do you have someone (or a group of someones) you check in with?
When was the last time you did so?
When can you check in again and take some time to care for each other and pray with each other?

Let’s check in with each other (those in our “household”) this week and help each other find strength in the Lord!

GBC Safe Church

ATTENTION: All GBC Volunteers
An email was sent last week to all 370 of our GBC Volunteers asking them to participate in the eligibility process of Safe Churches. It is very important that ALL of our volunteers complete the screening questionnaire contained in that email; it's what it means for us to be Trustworthy and it's also now a legal requirement!

A big thank you to those 100 of you who have already filled out the questionnaire attached to that email.

For the remaining 270 volunteers yet to complete the questionnaire, please take 5-10 minutes this weekend to do it. (It's a perfect rainy-day weekend to catch up on this sort of admin)

Any questions please contact the GBC Serve Team via email.

With our ongoing partnership with Baptist World Aid in Lebanon and the recent explosion that devastated Beirut on Tuesday, we can confirm that our partner organisations (LSESD) on the ground are safe, despite property damage and distress. They report that “we will continue to respond to this catastrophe with local Church Partners as they respond by providing food, providing hygiene supplies, providing water and shelter for families that are devastated by this disaster”. You can see more about their response in this 6-minute video - click to watch it here.

The Big Three
Join Marc Rader and co-hosts Matt Willis and Jess Baker for a fun and thought-provoking conversation as they discuss the three big questions submitted and upvoted by you (our congregation) via Slido during Sunday's sermon at GBC Online. It's a deep dive into last week's sermon; a great opportunity to consider what God is saying to us right now and how we can apply that teaching so our lives are changed by Jesus.

This week (Ep. 26: The Church Reimagined: We are Family ... (And That Means Something)) the Big Three are:

1) What are the challenges facing the household model in a world which focuses on the individual?
2) How does this household language relate to those called to God’s mission outside of the church (like in school, university or work)?
3) How does the move into LifeGroups facilitate this call to join God’s household and His mission?

If you haven't yet joined us for The Big Three, can we encourage you to not waste another minute - subscribe and download the weekly podcast "GBC Big Three" as well as "GBC Sermons".
