A NOTE FROM MARC

Goal-Setting
Just last weekend the senior staff and I, together with the CLT, sat down to consider church-wide goals for 2020. You’ll hear more about them at our next Section Leaders’ Meeting, but in brief there are three church-wide goals that we hope all of our congregations will participate in: to attend a Connect Group (a bi-monthly gathering of three or four Life Groups), to take their next faithful step as a follower of Jesus, and to look to be involved in what God is doing in the life of a friend or family member who does not yet believe in Jesus. It is my hope that each of the ministries of GBC will be able to contribute to these goals as well – either directly (as in the case of Life Groups) or indirectly through encouraging their teams and participants to be involved.

These church-wide goals are, however, just scratching the surface of what we hope to see God do in our community of faith in 2020. I am going to be encouraging each of you, as leaders at GBC, to be considering your ministry goals for next year too.

Goal setting is important because it forces us to think strategically and carefully about what is most important in our ministry areas and to break down how we might achieve those outcomes. In this sense, setting goals is a critical first step in the process that assumes we’ve done the hard work of thinking and praying about where we are going in the near future.

In other sense, setting goals is only the first part of the process. Without an action plan, goals will sit on our shelves and never become action. Setting good goals and making plans to achieve them will be part of our leadership task as we head into the last few months of the year – so get ready!

To help get you in the mood and to help you think through the goal setting process, Leeanne has pulled together and helpful article with some action steps below. I’d encourage you to read this and have a crack at it with your teams before the year gets away from us.

In each newsletter, we’ll include a helpful resource that we’d encourage you to listen to or engage with. This month it’s

"How To Inspire Your Team"
The Craig Groeschel Leadership Podcast #37
.
LISTEN NOW
In this short (21 minute) podcast Craig Groeschel introduces leaders to a variety of ways that you can inspire your team. I found it encouraging to think that there is more than one way to inspire people.

At our next Section Leaders’ Meeting we will be watching Craig’s first talk from last year’s Global Leadership Summit on becoming a leader that people love to follow. In this talk he briefly discusses the matter of inspiration. This podcast is an expansion of those brief comments. Give it a listen before our next meeting (May 13) as it will be part of our discussion on the night.
