As restrictions begin to lift many people are asking what a post-COVID world is going to look like. Every area of our lives has been affected by this disease and it appears that we may never return to how things were.
As a leadership we are beginning to grapple with what it means to be a community of faith in a post-COVID world. So much of our identity as a church has been tied up with gathering together on Sundays and, with a return to regular services months away, at the earliest, we cannot simply wait for a return to normal.

At the heart of this question is what it means for us to be connected to each other and to have a common identity as a community. This coming Monday the senior staff (Jodene, Mark, Roxane, and Vicki) are meeting to begin to think this through. We also have a Church Leadership Team meeting next Wednesday and I am hoping to have some direction to discuss with them from Monday’s meeting. I would appreciate your prayers as we seek to figure out the invitation of God in these extraordinary times. Please pray for clarity of thought and insight into what we have learned in the last two months but also for the leading of the Spirit as we consider the future.

I hope to “see” you on Sunday, online, as we continue to meet as the church ungathered.

GBC Updates

Check out this week's GBC Update from Marc Rader - click on the video image below for a 4-minute what's happening at GBC.

Come ready this Sunday to celebrate Communion by gathering some juice and bread or crackers and be ready to join with us as we participate in Communion together.

If you haven't yet, please subscribe to our YouTube channel to be notified of all GBC updates.

COVID Safe Ministry

As you are probably aware, the federal government has outlined a three-stage plan for a COVID Safe return to “normal”. The first stage, which comes into effect in NSW today, allows up to five visitors in homes, up to ten people at religious services or in outdoor venues, thirteen at a wedding, and more at funerals. The government is still recommending physical distancing and good hygiene practices to avoid a second wave of outbreaks which would significantly slow the reopening plan.

The first stage has no impact on our ministries as a church. We are encouraging our Life Groups – the only groups that might be able to meet if they were small and outdoors – to continue to meet online until we enter Stage Two which will allow up to twenty people to gather.

Beyond that, we also encourage everyone who is part of GBC to follow the recommendations and guidelines. This is one way we can be Others-Focused by doing our bit to keep our community safe and healthy.

May Mission Month

We are continuing on with May Mission Month this week as part of our GBC Online services. Our target this year is $190,000.

So far we've heard from two of the projects we're supporting this MMM:

1) Bible Society Australia, Remote Australia (Bible Translation)
2) Mother's Heart Organization, Cambodia.

You can check out the videos of our extended conversation with representatives from both of these organisations via our GBC YouTube channel or download the 'GBC Mission' audio podcast.

For further information on the projects we are supporting and how to donate go to and click on the May Mission Month image.

Kid's Activity Sheets

We love for our kids to participate during the service at GBC Online. Each week in the Notes section we provide an activity sheet to download and print. Roxane, our Children's Ministry Coodinator, also emails the Activity Sheets to allow you to print it out ready for the Sunday service. If you'd like to be included in this email list please send Roxane an email

We love to see the amazing craft activities created by kids during GBC Online so make sure you email Roxane your photos of your kids' artworks.

Your prayer request will be prayed for by our Staff, Elders and Prayer Team.

We are encouraging LifeGroups to continue meeting online (via Zoom etc) until Government restrictions allow groups of 20 (Stage 2) - see Marc Rader's comments above under the heading "COVID Safe Ministry".

GBC Prayer
Join us this Tuesday at 8:00pm AEST for "live" prayer and reflection via instagram @gymeabaptist or at our Gymea Baptist Church Facebook page.

We'll talk about the challenges of this current situation and consider some reflective questions that will help you examine your spiritual life at this time. See you then .... or watch it later when you have/need a quiet moment.

The Playtime team are missing their face-to-face times with parents, grandparents and kids but are thankful for other ways to keep in contact. Playtime@Home is meeting online and learning about this term's theme:  numbers. We make craft, sing songs and join in activities via a fun and interactive video presented by one of our Playtime Leaders. This week's video is from Jackie Martin.

If you know anyone who would like to receive the Playtime@Home resources including the weekly Playtime Leader's video with ideas for engaging young children, please email our Playtime Coordinator - Meddwyn and/or request to join Gymea Baptist Church Playtime on Facebook.
