MESSAGE FROM THE SENIOR PASTOR

Easter is usually one of the biggest weekends in the church calendar; when more people are found in church than just about any other weekend in the year. There’s a part of me that’s a little disappointed that we are not able to gather together this weekend due to the COVID-19 restrictions. However, the real reason Easter is one of the biggest weekends in the church calendar has nothing to do with how many people are gathered together.
The death and resurrection of Jesus lies at the very heart of the Christian faith. In his death he accomplished all that was necessary for us to re-enter a lasting relationship with the Father and qualified him to enact the Father’s plan to make all things new. In his resurrection he became the firstborn from among the dead (Col. 1:18; Rev. 1:5) and took his place at the right hand of the Father in glory.

Our lives have been swept up in these world-altering events and this is why Easter is so important. While I would love to be able to gather together in one place this weekend, the reality is that the number of people makes no difference to the significance of what we remember and celebrate. So while it will feel different than other Easter celebrations from past years, we still – always – remember what Jesus has done for us.

I hope and pray that wherever you gather and with whoever you gather your faith will be strengthened as you return again to the familiar story that is the foundation of our lives.

God bless and “see” you on Sunday online!

We'd love for our kids to participate during the service at GBC Online. Each week we provide in the Notes section an activity sheet to download and print.

GBC Prayer
Join us for Prayer at our Gymea Baptist Church Facebook page "live" this Tuesday at 11:00am AEST. (Set a reminder on your phone so you don't forget).
This is a great opportunity to join together to be led in prayer and reflection as we navigate these uncharted waters.
Congregational Care

Just a quick update from the GBC Cares team.

We are continuing to make contact with people we have been caring for on an ongoing basis while also developing additional longer-term strategies for how we can touch base and care for people particularly as the church is "un-gathered."
Care is most effective when it is provided by someone who you are already in relationship with, so we are encouraging everyone to call people you know in our congregation, to reach out and to see how they are going. All LifeGroup leaders have already been encouraged to pay particular attention to connecting with members of their groups. If you are not in a LifeGroup, you might like to consider connecting with one or two people who you regularly talk to after church, or other members of a team you serve on.

While we may be limited in the more practical aspects for caring for one another in these times of physical distancing, we can still show our Big-Hearted, Others-Focus in how we care for each other's spiritual and emotional health at the moment. Our Elders and GBC Cares teams are still able to make calls and pray for people, and Hopefield is still operating and able to offer counselling and other services for people who may need this kind of care.

If you need the support of any of these teams please do get in touch; contact details are below, but let's also keep practicing Congregational Care, and looking out for one another during these unprecedented times.

We’d also love to hear from anyone who’d like to join our team at this time and assist by making contact with people in our congregation. Please send an email to GBC Cares.

LifeGroups

During this time of physical distancing, we want to ensure that we effectively connect with and care for everyone who calls GBC home. All LifeGroup leaders have been and will be contacting their LifeGroup members (via phone, skype, zoom etc) to maintain contact and see how people are going.

LifeGroups are the primary way where we care for one another – while maintaining appropriate distancing. With permission, LifeGroup leaders will pass relevant information to their ConnectGroup leader (ConnectGroups are a group of LifeGroups), who will help inform church leadership to identify who is being cared for, and who may benefit from additional care from the Elders, GBC Cares or Hopefield.
