Walking to Oignt, Beaujolais

Walking in the Beaujolais

The Beaujolais region is a series of elegant rolling hills summiting around 1000m above sea level. Despite the relatively gentle nature of their slopes, the scale of the peaks and the depths of the valleys create a landscape of great panoramas and rich contrasts. The character of the Beaujolais hills changes with altitude as the vines give way to forests and pastures.

Wilton House, Wilton, Wiltshire

Last Kingdom of Wessex - Wilton

Our walking holiday Wonders of Wessex goes from the medieval city of Salisbury via Wilton to Shaftesbury in Dorset.
Wilton was founded by the Anglo-Saxons where an east to west ridge, topped by the Great Ridgeway and a Roman road, drops to the area where the Wylye and Nadder rivers converge. Today the town of Wilton appears overshadowed by the neighbouring city of Salisbury. However, it was once an important part of the Kingdom of Wessex and it is Wilton that gives us the county name of Wiltshire.
