The June Highlights Newletter of High Point Holidays

Highlights                                                       July 2012

Welcome to the July edition of Highlights, your monthly update on the latest news at High Point Holidays. Whilst in the UK July sees the start of the London Olympics, in France it is the Tour de France which takes centre stage. The 2012 Tour de France is made up of 21 stages and will be raced over 23 days. We have our very own circuit in the 3 Regions Tour which is 6 days cycling and covers the areas of the Beaujolais, the Burgundy and Brionnais. As well as focussing on this cycling holiday, we also let you know what's coming up in our competitions and update you on our guided walking holidays and latest web content.
Enjoy your walking and cycling.

Cycling Holidays 3 Regions Tour Beaujolais Burgundy Brionnais

Focus on the 3 Regions Tour: Beaujolais-Burgundy-Brionnais

Our independent cycling holiday 'The 3 Regions Tour' explores three distinct areas offering a varied and unique cycling break. Stage 10 of the Tour de France heads from Macon into the high mountains and will be a stern test for the riders. Our route is far more gentle and starts by taking you past a number of beautiful chateaux beore joining the main cycle way from Macon up through the heart of Burgundy. The track uses an adapted 1.6km long old railway tunnel to cross the Maconnais hills. It holds the distinction of being the longest tunnel in Europe to accommodate only green modes of transport and was France's first voie verte.  and was France     Burgundy is also a region full of architectural delights, such as the town of Cluny whose celebrated abbey was the largest church in Christendom from the 10th to the 13th Century. Whichever area ends up being your favourite there will always be time to stop off in some of the vineyards to sample the local wine.hever are

Walking for Charity

Walking for Charity

Taking part in a 10K charity walk last month in the grounds of Wilton House gave me an idea for an article on Walking for Charity with some ideas for anyone thinking of organising their own. Let us know via Facebook where you're doing yours.

Further content has been added about the places that both our guided and independent walking holidays visit, giving you an insight into the history, people and places. For example, we have new articles on Abbotsbury from our Dorset Jurassic Coastal Path and Ridgway holiday and Wilton House from our Wonders of Wessex Independent Walking holiday.
Marie-Noelle Durhone

"Most generous and kind....."

Last month, we were all greatly saddened by the sudden and unexpected loss of Marie-Noelle Durhône, the mother-in-law of founder member of High Point Holidays, William Armstrong.

I'll let William tell you in his own words what made her such a special person.
“She was the most generous and kind person I have known, always going out of her way to help in any way she could, but always in a way which never sought attention. She made me feel very welcome in France both during my early visits and when we first moved. I have no hesitation in saying that without her, High Point Holidays would not be the success that it is today. I owe her a great deal. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.”
