The December Highlights Newletter of High Point Holidays

Highlights                                                  December 2012

Welcome to the December edition of Highlights, our last update for 2012. High Point Holidays is now officially 5 years old this month. We would love you to share with us your experiences from those 5 years and one way you could do this, is to enter our prize-laden Photography Competition. Another, is by completing our Holiday Feedback Forms which have supplied us with the means for improving our holidays as well as some lovely Testimonials to share with prospective customers. Appropriately this month we are focussing on the Beaujolais, as this landscape and its hospitality were the inspiration behind the launch of High Point Holidays. We can also announce the launch of Loyalty Rewards, so we can give a little back to those that delight in the High Point Holiday experience and come back for more, year after year. Don't forget if you wish to take advantage of our Early Bird Offer on scheduled Guided Walking Holidays, you have until end of the month to receive a £25 reduction per person.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a great Festive Season and hope we will get the chance to speak or meet with some of you in 2013.

Beaujolais Guided Walking

Focus on our Guided Walking Holiday, Beaujolais Discovery

If you want to get a glimpse of all that Beaujolais has to offer, the beautiful scenery, the excellent food and wine, and historical villages, then Beaujolais Discovery fits the bill. On this holiday you will explore the full range of beautiful landscapes, often referred to as the French Tuscany, in this relatively quiet area of France. The Beaujolais, located to the north and east of Lyon, is a series of rolling hills summiting around 1000m above sea level. Despite the relatively gentle nature of their slopes, the scale of the peaks and the depths of the valleys create a landscape of great panoramas and rich contrasts. You will get the opportunity to visit a wine cave to sample some of the local wines as well as walking amid the vines that make up the most famous Beaujolais Crus. One region not to be missed (but less frequented than the area of the grands crus) on our week's walking is the area known as the “Golden stones”, so called due to the colour of the limestone used in the buildings. Here you will find some of the prettiest villages in France, set in a sumptuous landscape of interlocking hills receding to the horizon. Accommodation is in small, very comfortable chambre d'hôte style guest houses that allow us to mix with the hosts and other guests and immerse into the French way of life. Continental breakfast provides the perfect opportunity to discover the local specialities such as home-made jams and local cheeses. At midday you will eat gourmet lunches including quiches and salads served with a number of local wines. Six evening meals will be taken at your guest houses with your hosts, where you will be treated to local delicacies.
We have a confirmed date for 2013 of 15th-22nd May and spaces are still available.

Pierre Dorées - "The Golden Stones Country"

In the south of the Beaujolais region, on our walking holidays you'll discover an exquisite and relatively secret region of great beauty. Made up of about 40 parishes, this area is known as “Golden stones country” (pierre dorées), due to the colour of the limestone used in its historic buildings. Here, our independent and guided walking holidays will pass through a number of remarkable villages perched on hilly promontories. Wherever you look, you'll find fortified remains, chateaux or churches adorning the vine covered slopes. The Guided and Independent Beaujolais Medieval Village Tour visit about 15 of these picturesque and well preserved villages, including Oingt, classified as one of the prettiest villages in France and Jarnioux with its amazing towered chateau. Indeed all of our Beaujolais Walking Holidays including the Beaujolais Discovery cover the very best this beautiful area has to offer.

We would like to say a big Thank You to all the customers that completed holiday evaluation forms (we also have an on-line Holiday Feedback Form.) These are important for us to identify any areas for improvement but can also provide lovely testimonials to share with prospective customers. So, as we are celebrating 5 years of High Point Holidays this month, here's some of your lovely feedback:
"Wonderful holiday, your knowledge of the geography and geology of the area added to the interest of the walks which were both varied and interesting. I appreciated the opportunity to see such a wide area of the Auvergne and would have a hard time deciding which of the walks I liked best." R.Bull (Amazing Auvergne)
Thank you so much for the wonderful holiday. We had a great time seeing parts of Provence we would never have known. The experience of eating with our various hosts has been wonderful. Thank you for your company & for all the little details you put into making every day special.” A. Gilliver (Secret Provence: Les Baronnies)
