COACHES FOR MOCK COURT COMPETITION
The Geelong Law Association is looking for young lawyers (or young at heart) to mentor Year 11 legal studies students involved in the GLA Mock Court Competition.
In conjunction with high schools throughout the Geelong and Surf Coast area, the GLA is offering students the opportunity to gain some practical insight into the legal profession through the Mock Court series.
The students get a "brief" 2 weeks before each round. You would be expected to make personal contact with the teacher preferably this term, and visit the school at a time convenient to the teacher/students/you. Your role is to coach the students on Court craft and legal issues generally, and a few advocacy tips. No giving them the answers though! We have a manual which helps you on how to do it.
We have 10 schools, so we need 10 coaches. You can share the job with a friend if you are a bit nervous, or busy. If you get in quick, you can have your pick (of the schools).
Round 1 is being held on the 10th of August 2015, Round 2 on the 24th of August and finals are being held on the 7th of September.
For more information or to volunteer your time and expertise please contact Sam Hawkins by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or on (03) 5221 4744 or by email to Mary Foley email@example.com
Looking forward to your involvement.
