GITIKA'S NEWSLETTER
JANUARY 2013

I hope January has been kind to you. It   has been a funny month (not ha  ha). Still getting over December's stuff, and what with the lack of sun, good health and clement weather, I did very little in the way of work, until the last week  of this month...Freelancing..It is sometimes like the buses, nothing for weeks and then they all arrive at the same time.
Sadly did not run a choral training session in Darlington, because of the snow  - or  the session at the Royal Festival Hall because of a hacking cough...But.....
Started the NEW Tubthumping Chorus..have had three sessions now and is going very well...a lovely bunch of singers...the folk is rocking!
Bishopsgate Singers has started again. As a few people have migrated to the folk-ish choir we have quite a lot of new people, which is lovely. We are exploring some Cole Porter, Gershwin, the 2 Bob's (Marley and Dylan).  The Acland Burghley Harmony Singers  started last night and is  going to be another wonderful term.

So Now You Know!

I  did not really realise what I was taking on when I said yes to Hampshire County Music Services, when they asked me to do their keynote speech for about 200 primary school teachers. I did my research and found that full time  keynote speakers spend literally months working on a 45 minute presentation. Well the keynote kept my brain busy for 6 weeks and I think I  did it proud..this was my favourite of the 45 power point slides  in my presentation, linked to why so many of us are afraid of getting up and doing something 'in public'. Funny, as I swore I would never put myself through that again, and in the end I enjoyed it...ha ha

There have been lots of long slow cooked stews  in January and February at home, as much to keep the place warm as to be eating nourishing comfort food. My three favourite cook books at the moment are these.
The first one has a very snappy title!

  • Nourishing Traditions -The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats -Sally Fallon..( a great bedtime read too)
  • An Everlasting Meal - Cooking with Economy and Grace- Tamar Adler ( so beautifully written...boiled my first chicken, ever)
  • Mastering the Art of French Cooking-Julia Child ( recipes for boeuf bourguignon is AMAZING!)

Remembering Our Dear Friend
FRAN Mckeown

We lost a truly remarkable woman and close friend, very tragically over Christmas. She made a lot of things happen, saved and filled lives with light,  hope and laughter. She was very fond of dressing up and moustaches, hence the plethora of them this month!
She danced in 'Funky Mouse', one of our home made pop videos. Here is Fran and Mr P. wearing THE  ponchos, which I am posting in her glorious memory. Our love goes out to her son Finley and Partner John.
You will always be in our hearts. ...
