There were more than 50 issues that citizens in Humboldt County voted on during last week's General Election. The election results will be certified by Dec. 2, but election night results are available now.

Countywide Measures Z and P set to pass

The County Administrative Officer will give an update to the Board of Supervisors on Measure Z on Friday.

Inmates released after Prop 47 vote

Since the passage of Proposition 47 on November 5th, the Sheriff’s Office has released eight inmates due to re-sentencing by Humboldt County Superior Court.

Veterans Day is every day at the Veterans Service Office

Humboldt County joined the nation in celebrating Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11. It’s an important opportunity to thank local vets for their service to the country.

For the Veterans Service Office (VSO) of the Department of Health & Human Services, commemorating the day is also another chance to remind local vets about the services to which they are entitled. The Eureka office is often the initial contact for veterans seeking services. Working out of the Humboldt County Courthouse, those VSO efforts are year-round and tireless. Read more.

Former 1st District Supervisor Jimmy Smith was honored for his work on the Fields Landing boat launching facility and the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors named the facility named after him.

County recognized across state for innovation, efficiency

Innovation at the County of Humboldt was again recognized when it was named in September as a recipient of the California State Association of Counties’ (CSAC) Challenge and Merit Awards.

Over the past 14 years, the County of Humboldt and community partners have created a network that serves local businesses. This group has helped start more than 700 businesses and create or retain more than 5,200 jobs, resulting in more than $87 million in increased sales. Read more.

As weather conditions begin to turn colder and more wet, it's more important than ever that you know what the road conditions are like around Humboldt. The Public Works Department maintains a road conditions web page and you can receive a text message or email when that page is updated.

District Attorney's Office warns of potential check fraud

The District Attorney's Office is reminding merchants that James Cuhna is out of custody awaiting the outcome of several cases, including check fraud. He continues to offend by using stolen checks, fake checks and closed account checks. Read more

Department of Health & Human Services offers flu vaccine

A flu vaccine is needed every year to maintain existing immunity because flu viruses are constantly changing. It’s not unusual for new flu viruses to appear each year. The flu vaccine is formulated each year to keep up with the flu viruses as they change. Read more

Almost 20,000 cu feet of water stolen from Shelter Cove resident

The Sheriff’s Office and water district would like to remind the public that due to the drought, water thefts are increasing in frequency. Absentee homeowners should have neighbors watching their residence and take steps to prevent theft of water. Read more.

Sheriff's Lieutenants Morey and Knight retire after 30 years

Lieutenants Dave Morey and Steve Knight were recognized by the Board of Supervisors for their long careers of outstanding service to Humboldt County.

Caitlyn LaHaie has been hired by the Sheriff's Office as a Legal Office Assistance and Tory Siipola was hired as a Deputy Sheriff. Read more

Library's Serendipity Bookstore 15th anniversary Nov. 22

Friends of the Library will hold a sale that features lots of children’s books, a raffle and other donated goods including a basket of dog “goodies” from the Farm Store. There is also an adorable teddy bear using a donated fur coat. Add to your calendar.

Animal shelter is in need of items for local horses, dogs

The shelter could really use a couple of anti-fatigue mats or horse stall mats to soften the kennel floor for dogs with orthopedic injuries. Horse-lovers, business owners, anyone have some used mats that they could part with? Email redwoodpalsrescue@gmail.com.
