Collaborating To Protect Communities


The Fire Safe Council collaborates with many agencies and communities to create the Community Wildfire Protection Plan, which identifies and prioritizes areas for hazardous fuel reduction treatments.

Board adopts budget that enhances safety, keeps services

The adopted budget totals just over $319 million. This budget is an increase of roughly $13.4 million, which is due mostly to $8.9 million in public safety expenses funded by Measure Z. The General Fund, which contains the county’s discretionary dollars, is set at $115.2 million. General Fund estimated revenues, however, are only $112.2 million.

Measure Z to fund 15 public safety projects in community 

Citizens passed Measure Z, a half-cent sales tax, in November to increase public safety, and this budget makes substantial investments in that area. By preserving these funds for their intended use, this budget funds 65 additional public safety positions.

Whether rivers, lakes, the beach or pools, water recreation is a favorite summer pastime for many. The Humboldt County Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) Public Health officials are reminding everyone it is important to put safety first while enjoying activities in and around water.

Environmental Health officials with the Humboldt County Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) are issuing an early warning this year to recreational users of all bodies of fresh water to avoid contact with algae.
