The Sheriff's Office Gets Social
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center (aka Dispatch), is now on Twitter! The Communications center will tweet critical incidents, major road closures, and public safety advisories. The Sheriff's Office now has three Twitter accounts. Read more
The Humboldt County Planning and Building Department is responsible for protecting public health, safety, and welfare. The department achieves this through building permit review and inspections consistent with California model codes as well as planning and development review and approval consistent with the county's General Plan. The department also provides administrative and development assistance services.
The two new correctional deputies are Arthur Johnson and Jordan Checots, both from Eureka. The two deputy sheriff recruits are Brandon Head and Foy Melendy. Head is currently enrolled in the College of the Redwoods police academy and Melendy will begin attending this month.
District Attorney hires two deputy DAs with Measure Z
The two new deputy district attorneys are Michael McDonald of Blue Lake and Jamie Murdock of Orange. Both will be handling misdemeanor caseloads. The District Attorney's Office now has 16 full-time deputy district attorneys
Additional funds available for first-time homebuyers
Humboldt County was recently chosen as one of just six jurisdictions in California to receive funding for the First-Time Homebuyer program. Humboldt will receive roughly $1 million, which will be used to provide low-interest deferred loans to local citizens looking to purchase a home.
Board makes interim CAO DHHS Director appointments
The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors on Dec. 14 appointed Cheryl Dillingham to the position of interim County Administrative Officer and Connie Beck to the position of interim Director of the Department of Health & Human Services.
A large crowd of well-wishers and Fly Humboldt supporters were on hand to celebrate the launch of United Express/SkyWest's new E-175 jet service. This 76-seat jet commenced service at the California Redwood Coast-Humboldt County Airport in December.
The County of Humboldt is recruiting for a new member for the Headwaters Fund Board, the community body overseeing all aspects of the Headwaters Fund. The new board member will begin service in February.
92-year old woman saved from mail scam by friend, sheriff
On Thursday, Dec. 17 a Humboldt County Community Service Officer, contacted a 92 year old female victim of a mail scam. The victim stated she received a letter mailed to her residence by an unknown subject stating if she sent them $500 then they would send her $795,000.
