Interactive Meetings Detail County Budget, Measure Z

Beginning April 1 you will pay a half-percent more in sales tax for specified local purchases. Voters approved this sales tax, called Measure Z, in November. The Board of Supervisors and County staff held meetings in February discussing with the community details of the County's budget and what Measure Z means to them. Learn more

Applications for Measure Z funds now being accepted

If you believe you provide public safety or essential services for Humboldt County, and would like to apply for Measure Z funds, you can now fill out an application stating your case. Applications will be accepted until March 20 at 5 p.m.

'Baby Think It Over' program lets youth try out parenthood

Some schools make kids take care of eggs in order to teach them about raising a child. But at Coastal Grove Charter school, kids are asked to take care of robotic babies, provided by the Department of Child Support Services. The results are always eye-opening. What factors most affect the health of our local waterways?


The North Coast Stormwater Coalition (NCSC) invites all community members to participate in the 2015 Stormwater Survey. The NCSC works collaboratively with Humboldt County and local city governments to reduce stormwater pollution and protect local watersheds. Read more

Nurse-Family Partnership, a program of the Humboldt County Department of Health & Human Services, graduated 19 participants on Feb. 26. NFP is an evidence-based community health program that helps transform the lives of vulnerable mothers pregnant with their first child. Read More.

Limmie Curry pleads guilty to voluntary manslaughter

District Attorney Maggie Fleming announced that Limmie Greg Curry pled guilty this afternoon to voluntary manslaughter, and admitted the use of a firearm in the shooting death on February 3, 2010 of William Charles Reid. Read more
