Health Sector News
The report on the Government Inquiry into Mental Health and Addiction was publically released on 4 December 2018. The catalyst for the inquiry was widespread concern about mental health services within the mental health sector and the broader community, and calls for a wide-ranging inquiry from service users, their families and whānau, people affected by suicide, people working in health, media, Iwi and advocacy groups.

The report contained 40 recommendations, which apply to health, the wider sector and society as a whole.

The Inquiry made a number of urgent and early recommendations while recognising many of its recommendations would require detailed reviews, establishing new bodies, consultation with interested parties, or substantive legislative change.

Paediatric medication dose calculators
Calculating medication doses for children can be tricky and time-consuming in a busy practice. Health Navigator has launched paediatric dose calculators for the commonly prescribed medicines;
Enter your patient’s age and/or weight parameters, and the calculator expresses the dose in milligrams and millilitres of liquid.
We’d love to get your feedback on whether you find these helpful.
Inhaler videos
We know many patients struggle to use their inhalers correctly, or quickly forget after a brief, once-off demonstration. These videos have been filmed on a marae and created with the team at Auckland District Health Board to address these issues.

They are now being incorporated into discharge planning and outpatient visits for COPD patients. Your teams may find them useful too.
