In this month’s health sector news, we bring you an article on countering vaccine misinformation and a Goodfellow podcast on ventilation and filtration of clinics during COVID. We also include a new Choosing Wisely video that highlights the importance of good communication with consumers and their whānau.  

In Health Navigator NZ updates, we link to our range of resources to support COVID-19 positive people who are self-isolating/quarantining at home. Also included are two health apps – an exercise app for older adults and a health and wellness app.

The team at Health Navigator NZ has developed a range of topics to support COVID-19 positive people who are self-isolating/quarantining at home. The easy to understand, best practice resources simplify complex concepts individuals and whānau need to understand about having COVID.

Countering vaccine misinformation: A practical guide for healthcare providers
This article discusses vaccine misinformation and how it can undermine vaccine confidence and lead to vaccine hesitancy. Evidence-based strategies for countering vaccine hesitancy and misinformation are summarised. Techniques to support healthcare providers when engaging with individuals whose vaccine hesitancy has resulted from exposure to vaccine misinformation are provided. Read more.
Promoting video consultations
Research confirms video consultations improve relationships and engagement compared to telephone consultations. Share this video with your providers and patients/clients/whānau to encourage them to give it a go next time they need an appointment. Watch the video.
Choosing Wisely video for clinicians
The Health Safety and Quality Commission recently released a new video for clinicians highlighting the importance of good communication with consumers and their whānau. The video includes stories from health care consumers and health experts and is presented by Professor David Tipene-Leach, kaihautū/chairperson of Te ORA, general practitioner and public health physician. Watch the video.
