A Golden Age of Global Muckraking

The awards luncheon at the annual Investigative Reporters and Editors conference featured a moving keynote address by Columbia University's Sheila Coronel. Her speech focused on the contagious and empowering spirit of collaboration taking hold among investigative journalists worldwide. Coronel, who has played a key role in spreading investigative reporting worldwide, spoke to 1,850 people -- the largest-ever gathering of investigative journalists -- about networks, collaborations, nonprofits, and a new golden age of global muckraking.

GIJN Board Members Elected

GIJN member organizations this month voted to elect board members. Seven seats were up for election, each for a two-year term. We're pleased to welcome new members Eva Jung (Danish Association for Investigative Journalism) and Syed Nazakat (Centre for Investigative Journalism, India) and offer our congrats to those re-elected: Carlos Eduardo Huertas, Anton Harber, Oleg Khomenok, Bruce Shapiro, and Margo Smit. Leaving the board will be Umar Cheema and Nils Mulvad. Please join us in giving a big thanks to Nils, a GIJN co-founder, and Umar for their invaluable service.

Asia Conference's All-Star Cast

We're going to Kathmandu! In just under three months GIJN and partners will join hundreds of muckrakers for the groundbreaking 2nd Asian Investigative Journalism Conference. We've got an all-star cast, led by Spotlight's “Robbie” Robinson, ICIJ's Panama Papers Asia team, and AP's Pulitzer-winners that freed 2000 slaves. The big event is Sept. 23-25, but now's the time to register and book your travel.
